My G you guess, this could have happened to Adie and me.

I don't usually go to PetSmart without Adie but I had to do my grocery shopping so I just ran in to Petsmart real quick. On my way in I noticed these two older boys hanging around the door. They didn't smile back at me or act like they wanted to have anything to do with people coming in or out. Strange. While I was in the store there was a big commotion at the front of the store. It seems that these boys tried to grab a puppy out of the arms of a woman walking out. Fortunately the woman saw them coming and was screaming her head off before they got a good a good hold on the puppy. The boys took off running. I don't know if they were caught or not but I helped give the police a good description. One of the cops said they didn't know what they could do if they did catch them since they weren't successful and it would be the woman's word against theirs. Anything I could have said would be useless. How would you convince a judge that you "thought" they looked funny? Sigh.

That stinks big time. I don't think the police will do anything unless the crime was actually committed. that is how they are around here anyway. It is so sad that someone will try to steal your pup right out of your arms. Some people are just so pathetic.

What would posses someone to do that!! I just don't get it. Why steal someones pet?! There are tons and tons of puppies for adoption. It is the same as taking someones child.

This is so scary, I am already afraid to take Percy out, to the dogpark, even sometimes for walks.....this is not helping what my husband calls my "puppy paranoia"

That is so sad. Sounds like your "gut instinct" is in good shape.
Hmmm, makes me wonder if those boys saw that video of the yorkie puppies that were stolen?

People steal puppies/dogs because of $$$. Why should they pay thousands of dollars for a dog or even a few hundred for a rescue when they can STEAL one and get it for free?

Makes my blood boil!!

Thats awful to think we cant go anywhere safely with our furkids. I think I am going to make Pet Id's for my furkids and keep them in my wallet, this way alteast I have a great source for immediate identification!!

I don't know why it still amazes mwe, but it does. I just can't believe what some people will do now days. What is wrong with people.

I don't know if it was a Yorkie they tried to take (you didn't say..) but hearing about puppies and dogs being kidnapped all the time really stinks! Here is another reason why Yorkies being #2 most popular breed is a bad thing!

That's terrible. I don't know if they could get charged on attempted robbery, if their is that? Like attempted murder.

The puppy looked like a Pom to me but I could be wrong. It was hard to see it with the lady holding on to it so tight. I agree about the paranoia! Adie loves to sit on the back of the couch and look out the window and high school kids walk by every morning and afternoon. I'm scared one of them might try to nab her when my husband is in the garage or back yard! The front door is ALWAYS locked and the back yard is fenced in with a lock on the gate. Thank God we have Ivan - I think he would try to kill anyone who tried to take one of the little ones.

I just don't know if I will be taking Adie anywhere anymore, and the poor thing LOVES PetSmart!

I was walking Percy earlier this week, and for the umpteenth time someone stopped me and was gushing on and on about him and how much they wanted/NEEDED one. When I asked if they knew anything about the breed, they didn't. Amazing. How do you get/want a dog and know nothing at all about them? It always reminds me of when I had my first dog, a little dachshund. Everyone always went on and on about how cute he was and how they would love to have one. Well, those are not easy dogs to care for, or train. Almost impossible to house break, very temperamental. Yet people see how cute they are and want one.

Maybe these boys had a puppy that looked like the one the lady had at Petsmart and they lost theirs, so they decided to steel hers so their mom would not kill them when they got home!

You never know what these kids are thinking about half the time!

I guess it could be for both reasons. Small dogs (Yorkies in particular) are very popular and expensive. They could easily re-sell the dog for a lot of money. Or maybe some guy will steal one for his girlfriend or sister or mom. People are sick. They just view these dogs as PROPERTY and not as a living, breathing creature with feelings. If they did view them in the right way, they would never steal a baby away from his family who love him. It's so wrong. I can't even imagine how scared a poor dog would be and missing his mommy and daddy too.

I know my poor Codie would be DEVESTATED if he were ever stolen. He's EXTREMELY attached to me and gets sick if I even go to vacation for a few days without him.
