| I've Got an Escape Artist Well Chase does well at night in his crate, but I found out he hates being in his Xpen if I'm at home. This morning after letting him out I decided I'd take a little nap, so I put him in his Xpen with a few favorite toys and went upstairs. Well, you would have thought I had abandoned him on the side of the road. He barked like he was crazy. I figured this would stop any minute, but it didn't. I ignored him but he went on and on and on right up to the time I had to get ready to leave the house. So I started to get ready and all of a sudden the barking stops. I figure he tired himself out and he's taking in his little 13 week old mind a well deserved nap for a job well done. So I continue to get dressed. I come down stairs and who should meet me with tongue hanging out and literally smiling and tail wagging was my little angel so happy at what he had accomplished by escaping his perceived prison. I was speechless, I wondered how on earth did he figure out how to scale his way out and I know he had to fall from the top. But no injuries, and he was so Proud of himself. I read on this site about people putting a sheet or cover over the top for their escape artist so thats what I did so I could leave the house with some peace of mind that he wouldn't kill himself while I was away. You can't believe how relieved I was to hear him bark when I pulled the car into the garage. HE survived (whew!) |

They are clever lil rascals, but you might want to get a top for that x-pen. I had 1 dislocate his hip by getting his foot caught and yanking while attempting to climb out.

| Bet he was so proud of himself. I had to put two baby gates over the top of the ex-pen when Zada was a pup. |

| Exactly what I was thinking, LOL. Your going to have a great adventure with this little one....Ours didn't figure this out until they were about 16 weeks, and then they were too chicken to crawl on over the top. I would stand and watch them, they would crwl to the top and sit and cry until someone rescued them.

| Venus is a climber too. Xpen didn't last long at my house either. I'd made my x-pen, and couldn't find a way to put a top on it. I had to baby gate the kitchen for her. I got the type that looked like jail bars so she couldn't climb them. I also had to get a thin peice of plexi-glass from Lowe's, to put one the front of it so she couldn't walk through it. Lowe's will cut the plexi-glas to whatever size you want it. When I got home, I drilled holes in it and attached the glass to the front of the bars with those white ties (forgot what you call them). She no longer escapes the kitchen! |
