my poor baby any hernia repairs out there? I took my 4 mo old in for a hernia repair and a spay on friday-they said no big deal-lies lies!!! friday and sat she was fine, then sat night, she started jumping around and jerking and twitching and couldnt get comfy-well then I called around to see who was open-my vet wasnt. I checked her stitches and the hernia ones were swollen. I took her into banfield @ petsmart since they were open, and they said she had a reaction to those stitches and gave me an antibiotic and said to put the ecollar on b/c she wasnt licking yet, but she would in the nxt day or two. I called my regular vet on monday to tell them about the meds and ask them if i could bandage instead of the ecollar (it really scared both my dogs) and they said to bring her in. So i did, he checked the stiches and then i thot he was going to clip them shorter but he cut them out after only 3 days!!!! I was horrified-he said it would be fine. She bled a bit and i took her home and went to work. I came home and her wound was coming apart-and still bleeding/oozing. I took her back in and he said it was no big deal and he cleaned it and when he did it began to bleed more-yuck. so he took her in the back and stapled her. I told him I can't bear to see it, so he went ahead and bandaged her. Now she is miserable. she is crying and whining and she wasnt doing this before w/the stitches. I been giving her the torbital -but it just makes her shakey and I feel so bad for her, there is nothing i can do to comfort her.... and I'm literally afraid to take her back into the vet. I'm sure she is fine now, but this was a huge ordeal for me to bear-and I just wonder am i overprotective or is this really a lot? maybe my expectation wasnt properly set in the beginning, but I'm really frustrated. Just curious how other's puppies dealt with this-or if anyone has any suggestions on soothing my baby girl...

I can't eblieve he stapled her after the wound had been opened for that long. I hope she doesn't get an infection. Is she on antibiotics? Keep a close eye on that wound site and look for redness and drainage. Good luck!

yeah, it's my regular vet.. he just seems to confident and didnt even really look at her until she started to bleed it'll be hard to watch for additional swelling or redness, she is wrapped from her hips and around her leg i thot stapling was out these days??? oh well..wish me luck. I go back in on friday to have the bandages removed... i sure hope he doesnt do anything else sketchy to her.

Yeah I think it is a big deal. He cutting on her, ripping stitches out to soon then just stapling her up like she's a piece of paper. Watch for redness, its really not good to have it bandaged it needs air. I would take it off so you can keep a close eye on it. Give her some baby asprin to help with discomfort just try to keep her relaxed. You can wash the area with warm water & antibacterial soap. Finish the antibiotics. I hope you didnt pay for the staples or the removal of them. That was a surgical complication. I would take her when it was time to get them out & if they said I owed them anything I would tell them to shove it & find another vet. What is it w/vets & people doctors too. They dont give people options, like would you like us to try another type of stitches, staples or maybe just surgical tape? They just do what ever the hell they want, half the time not numbing or even telling you what they are doing first & you know we are no better then them because we let them, we dont ask questions until after the fact. We hand our pets & children over to them w/a bad feeling in our gut but we say nothing. We need to start asking for options & why one is better then the other so that they have to stop & think about what they are doing & how it will effect others. We will avoid more heart ache & doctors less malpractice, but vets they get away with way to much. JMO

that's true-there were no options, just a nip and it all happens so fast. I guess I should look around for another vet. maybe the more expensive ones are worth the money in the long run....
