No Longer a Member | Not a rat...not a gopher...arrgghh! OK, so I went to my yorkie meetup at the dog park, and just before we left, someone with an old beagle or basset hound (can't remember) was getting a drink at the dog fountain. Anyway, Chloe was right next to it, and I pulled her away, because someone said that dog was being aggressive and I didn't wanna take any chances. Anyway, the dog's owner said to her dog, "yes, it's a dog....not a rat...not a gopher...it's a dog..." referring to Chloe. That really irked me to no end! I understand some people are not used to seeing such small dogs, but I'm so sick of them making such rude comments. My dog is cuter, sweeter, and well-behaved...so there....that's what I should have said. |

| I would have looked right at her and said: VERY GOOD, what elementry school do you attend? I've had men say things like......."it's not quite a dog", and, "it hasn't cooked long enough", and "it's sad what has happen to the real dogs", and, "my dog would have you for a snack" and other illiterate phrases. I'm pretty quick with comebacks that put them down to size if the comments are a real put down. |

| People like that are just trying to get a rise from you. Don't give them the satisfaction. Just smile sweetly, and say, "No, not just a dog, it's a Yorkie." and walk away with head held high.

| The bottom line alot of people want yorkies but they know that they couldn't handle the up keep on them...and they are beautiful dogs, so maybe alittle jealousy, but trust me I have a GSD and my yorkies are more protective of me than Max..... My sister has a chi chi and talk about looking like a rat...but I don't say that to her, every dog is beautiful in there on way...but yorkies are the ultimate beauty......

| Ya know....My husband (in his younger years) was a power lifter and developed huge biceps. Whenever we went out clubbing He would inevtability be challenged to arm wrestle with someone. It used to make him mad because he thought they were saying that they could take him. I finally said that I think the challenges were back-handed compliments given by men who couldn't show any weakness and/or wanted to feel the muscle without being obvious about it. I think that non-yorkie owners can be the same way. They don't want to say that your dog is cuter than theirs and they want to acknowledge its outstanding characteristics. Here is another thought. I have commented to people in Petsmart about how cute their dogs are and been rebuffed by the owners (They acted like snobs.) And yes, it has often been yorkie owners but usually they are small dogs. I had a guy actually snear at me when I asked him what breed his puppy was. "What does he look like to you?" he asks "I guess he looks like a german shepherd" That is when the snear came. He looked at his female companion and says "He looks like a german shepherds" then back to me "He's a rotweiler." Moral of the stories - there are all kinds out there and some of them will love your dog, some will be jealous of your dog, and some will dislike your dog. There - that's me 2 cents for the day. |

| I wonder what even gave people the idea t call yorkies a rat. A rat is an ugly animal with beady eyes and a long disgusting tail. Yorkies dont look anything like a rat. Yorkies are cute and I just think they are jealous their dog isnt as cute as a yorkie

| Really.... I would just look at them and say..."You need to go back"..... Of course, they would want to know what I meant by that. My response would be "You need to go back to do a re-take course on being a decent human. You obviously either failed the course, or maybe you just need a brush up"..... Best of luck to you. Hope you pass next time. |
