| my firstie yorkie so my 18th birthday was a few days ago. my father asked me what it is that i wanted from him for a gift. it was either an emac or a yorkie.. and as much as i need that new computer, ive been dreaming of having my very own yorkie for ages and ages! so i persuaded him into getting me the best he could find. here in houston, people like to overprice the yorkies insanely..we ran into very many people asking 1200+, some even asking 2800!! we finally found a breeder of 43 years who has her heart set on breeding those dogs, and by meeting her and going to her home i could really tell she was true about what she did. we purchased the runt girl, cutest thing in the world.[wish i had taken my camera with me then..] shes 6 weeks, so by valentines day, she will be ready to come home. im very excited, and i really love the challenge of keeping a pet healthy and in tip top shape. so i know this has probably been asked a million and one times on here, but..any quick little pointers? i know to clean eye boogies, brush often, clip top 3rd of ear hair, keep sweaters at hand..but i want to hear every last little thing there is to know about caring for this yorkie. i want to give her a wonderful home, and i know i will..i just want to give her the very best she can have. so any little advice you could share about caring for my gal, id very much appreciate it!

| my first Yorkie You sound like a wonderful person. Your dog is going to be very lucky to go to such a good home. The most important thing, besides providing its basic needs, is just to love your dog. Take it on frequent walks, feed it a good dog food, and don't leave it alone for long periods of time. Also, don't spoil it. Let the dog know you are the leader. Oh yes, socialize it with other dogs. Good luck

| Welcome to YT i'm glad you joined. There is so much to learn, and read on here, and so many many friendly helpful people, if you ever doubt, or have question, feel free to ask, there is always someone around. The one tip i would love to give you is, start brushing her teeth at a very young age so she get's used to it, and make it part of her daily routine. Yorkies tend to have bad teeth as they get older, but it can be prevented by regular brushing. It's tough not to spoil these yorkies, i will admit, my girls have me where they want me, our world revolves around them. Any plans we make, the girls get thought of first. We made a commitment before we got them, and it's our duty as parents to see to their every need. Enjoy your stay, and i would love to see pics of your baby. |

| oh yes, brushing teeth! i went to petsmart the other day and got the basic things i thought i'd need.[training pads, toothbrush and toothpaste, comb, blunt nose scissors, teeny tiny collar, sweaters] my mother has a teacup chihuahua thats about 8 mo. old, would her pup food be ok for my yorkie? she uses purina puppy chow, im sure thats fine, right? now i plan on training my new pup to pee on the pad..but my moms dog isnt really trained in that department..do you think she would be a negative influence on my new pup? because i believe so..when i leave the house though, i also plan on putting my pup in my restroom..so she wont get influenced by my moms dog

| Would you consider leaving that little baby with it's mom till it was at least 12 weeks. Letting them go before then isn't a good idea. They learn so very much from their moms. |

| Hi and welcome to YT. How exciting for you to get such a wonderful birthday present. You sound like your going to make a wonderful mommy. You will find all the help you need on this site. There will be lots of experienced Yorkie owners willing to help you in anyway they can. Please be careful with that tiny collar you purchased. Better to use a harness on your little one. They have very delicate necks and you should not use collars on them. I hope the time goes by fast for you so you can have you furbaby home with you. Carol & Buddy |
