| Jaden jumped off the bed last night... Jaden wasn't feeling so great yesterday. I think he's stressed out from all the visitors we have down here and being a little "out of his element". He started having diarrhea yesterday afternoon so I gave him sone anti-diarrhea medication and fed him some boiled chicken and rice in hopes to calm his belly. I put him in his crate so he'd rest and not be passed around by everoyne and bothered by all the noise and everything that was going on. He seemd like he was getting better. Last night I got ready for bed and put him in bed with me like I always do. My bed is against a wall, so Jaden always stays on the inside, near the wall, and I lay on the outside that way if he tries to move over me I'll feel him and wake up. He's so good about staying in bed and sleeping all night I never have any trouble with him. Well last night, I wake up to a "thud". My heart dropped into my stomache and before I even had to feel for him I knew he had gotten off of the bed. My bed is about 3 1/2 feet high and he's never jumped that high ever. I rushed to the side of the bed to get him expecting the worse and he was down there spinning to go to the bathroom. He had diarrhea again and didn't want to go in the bed. I am not sure how he survived such a fall, let alone survived it with no injuries. He didn't whelp or cry and is running around like a mad man today like nothing happened. I'm taking him to the vet on Tuesday anyway so I'll have them take an x-ray just in case but even when I feel his legs and press on certain parts he does nothing. I was so worried and expecting the worse. I can't tell you how sick I felt when I heard that sound and on all days Christmas morning at 5:00 AM I really believe God was watching over him and somehow he landed a certain way so that he wasn't hurt at all. I don't know what I'd do without him and by far the best present I recieved today was him not being hurt. Now that I know he is brave enough to get off the bed if he has too I'm going to look into some type of bed rail guard or something he can sleep in where he cannot get off of it and jump of the bed. Honestly, I'd rather him make a mess in the bed if he has too than risk his life and jump off. Messes can be cleaned and taken care, bones always aren't that easy to fix. Just wanted to remind everyone to be careful with your babies and love them everyday like its the last day you'll have them. You never know what could happen so treasure them always. |

| I'm glad your baby's ok. That's why Pepper is only allowed on the bed during day only if I sit on it as well and can watch him. Hubby and I wanted him to have a special treat and sleep on the bed last night. LOL, he had his steps up (he can't get on bed if the steps are not up) and still chose to sleep on his own in the kitchen hmm.

| I am glad he is okay. My hubby made a ramp for the bed and our two almost 5mth old puppies go up and down to the bathroom at night. The stairs just did not work for them or the mom. I would put lots of pillows and blankets on the floor so if it happens again he will not get hurt. That is what I did until they were confident with the ramp. If he still has the diarrhea I would take a fecal sample with you to the vet's office. Just in case they want a specimen. I always bring one in if any of my dogs have diarrhea.

| I've been thru that bed scare before, Kodak jumped off the bed last year and sprained his back hip. I was so mad (about 2 secs) because the pet stairs were right there and he refused to use them. I was so scared because he limped but the vet told me if it was broke he couldn't stand on it. So he did ok after a pain shot and few days later he was back to normal. Now a year later, he leaps like a squirrel.

| That is scary! We can't stop Monster from jumping off anything. We have the stairs so that he can get on the bed, but he jumps off anyway (and our bed is about as high as yours). I was very scared about it at first, but fiance was like "Calm down, he clearly isn't hurting himself." I've realized that with Monster anyway, he'll jump when he knows it's safe, for example, he can fit through the rails on our back porch and has looked his head through and thought about it, but realized it was not a good idea. I'm glad Jaden is okay! |

| How big is your baby? Shayna is about 4.5 pounds and is a jumping machine! when we first got her, i remember reading postings on YT about how yorkies shouldnt jump off beds or off of sofas, etc. so i was very protective of her but she loved to try and jump on stuff. at first she had trouble jumping up on the sofa, but that only lasted a couple of days before she got it, and even then i would put her down on the ground instead of her jumping off. then she started jumping off on her own...but our sofa isnt very high so i didnt think anything of it. At night she sleeps on the bed with us, and used to let us know if she had to go to the potty. we were waiting until she got more potty trained to get her stairs. then one morning she jumped off the bed. i freaked out but she was perfectly fine. she walked away as if she had been doing it for years. now she jumps on and off the bed like a pro. (unless she's tired then she doesnt want to jump up hahaha). i still get scared every once and a while cuz we have hardwood floors, but she loves jumping! shes one tough cookie i guess!

I had a similar scare when Abbie was a pup. I had my first and only (thank GOD!) bout of vertigo and was in bed. Well, Abbie was just going ballistic because she couldn't find me. Finally, I told hubby; "Good grief, just bring her here!" She hadn't been on the bed very long, when my daughter's care provider came in, and Abbie flew off the bed before I could even sit up! Our bed is pretty tall, too, so we naturally envisioned broken leg, concusion(sp?) or worse! She did yelp and run about a bit, but didn't seem injured. We observed her and didn't let her sleep for several hours. She's fine! I think it made a lasting impression, though; because now she won't jump off the bed on her own. We've always tried to be aware of when she needs down, and go help her. Now, she whimpers when she's ready, and waits for us to help. I'm so glad your baby's fine!

| Jaden is 4 pounds, I've never let him jump off of anything higher than say a foot and a half or so. His breeder said to me "if he can't jump up on it, he can't jump off of it" and he has never jumped up on my bed and I don't think he could if he tried...that's why it scared me so bad when he decided to take a flying leap of my bed He seems perfectly fine though, how he's perfectly fine is beyond me, by all the means I can see he should've broken a few legs or worse. I'm just so glad he's all right. I think from now on he'll be sleeping in his crate on my bed or some type of bed where he can't get out until the morning. Quote:

| After my 2 girls took turns falling off the bed, we got steps. Piper hurt her leg, but it wasn't broken. She was fine in a couple of days. Although I rushed her to the vet because she wouldn't walk on it. Our bed to is too high for them to jump off. Since they have been using the steps, they haven't tried to get off the bed without them. |
