| Please say a Prayer for my Babies Last night my hubby put 2 packs of rat poison under the shed where the pups can't get to them. We have boards nailed around the shed so they can't get under there. This evening he found one of the packets empty on the hill in the yard where the puppies take their toys to play with them. He found some of the poison pellets scattered on the sidewalk at the bottom of the hill. The pups were in and out all day. We don't know if they ate any poison or not. The vet did some blood tests and said they looked ok but we need to watch them for 2 weeks for hemorages. He gave them a vitamin K shot and vitamin K pills to take for 2 wks. He thinks they will be ok. The thought that we may have poisoned our own babies makes me sick. Even tho I think they will be ok, I am still shaking. I don't think I will get any sleep tonight after this.

| Oh Gosh!!! I know you must be so upset - I just can't imagine. I grew up in the country and sometimes you have to do things like that (use rat poison) to control the pests - but it scares me to death! I sure hope they are OK. We too, had a scare last month. We found our little Rexy with an open and empty bottle of advil. Thing is, it was my mom's and she didn't know if it was empty or not, so we had to go to the vet and treat him like he ate some advil. Thank goodness he was OK, and now we think the bottle was empty. But I know you you feel - just sick to your stomach! Good luck, I sure hope your babies are OK!

| I'm praying for your pups! I just got back from the vet for another reason and there was a cocker there that had eated rat poison. She was fine and also had to take pills for a few weeks. Let us know how they are.

| No we don't have cats but our neighbors do and they are in our yard all the time. We think there is only one rat. Never again will we put any poison anywhere in the yard even where the pups cant get to it. I just had a feeling it was a mistake when we did it but hubby told me it would be ok. The critter must have brought the packet into the yard because the pups couldn't get under there, the space is much too small and they are 12 and l3 lbs. I will keep you updated. There is nothing like you guys on YT to come to the rescue with your prayers and concerns! Thank you so much!!!

| I asked the vet what symptoms to look for because I thought they would be lethargic, or stumbling, throwing up or something. He told me the symptoms would be hemorages in the whites of their eyes or gums, or the gums turn white. He told me to keep checking for the hemorages.

| I am so sorry you're going through this... I went through it this time last year... I didn't know if Toby had gotten into it or not... Well... I ended up at the emergency vet a total of 3 times -- and my regular vet 4 or 5 times... over 1,000 dollars later my baby is just fine! As far as looking for any signs -- you also need to check their tummys, chest and legs for any signs of bruising -- which will mean internal bleeding. That was when I knew for sure he had gotten in to it He got a really dark red spot (bruise) on his tummy. My vet had told me to watch out for any kind of bruising. We were on the vitamin pills for 3 months. Kept having to check his blood levels and everything worked out fine. I researched and found there is a "pet friendly" rat/mice poison called Rode-trol -- which is a corn-based product. They are supposed to eat it, go to sleep and fall into a coma and die. I know I won't ever have rat poison anywhere around... Just keep an eye on your little ones -- and I'm sure they will be fine! Just keep us all updated on how they -- and you -- are doing!!! | I'm so glad Toby was ok. I know that had to be so scary for you. Thanks for mentioning the pet friendly rat poison and the bruising. I will watch for that also. I told my husband lets forget about the rat and hope it goes away. But the vet said the rat can give the dogs diseases that can kill them so we need to trap it or something. He also told us to watch for soft skin where blood pockets may be forming under the skin. Also sneezing, vomiting, peeing or pooping blood. This has been such a nightmare. But I am sure they will be ok. We don't know if they ate any of it but just like little Rexy and the advil, we are treating them like they ate it just to be safe.
