| I am new and need some help I just purchased a yorkie and she is about 3 months and weighs 3lbs. I was told by the vet she was going to get about 6lbs, but when I purchased her I was told she wasnt going to get much bigger but 6lbs is double her weight. I started purchasing things for smaller dogs and now the vet said about 6lbs. I was wondering if anyone who has 6lb yorkies can give me their height and length so I can get an idea of how much bigger she will get. Thanks so much! |

| No one really can tell for sure how big is your baby will be. But here is some guidelines. And I think your vet is about right. http://yorkiepassion.com/growthchart.htm |

| That's a pretty long lil boy! They're all a bit different. Connor is almost 5.5 lbs. he's 9 in. tall and 9 in. long. I've purchase him size smalls that turn out to be too big and some that turn out to be too small. Don't invest too much yet, they tend to grow quite a bit between 4 and 6 monthes.

yorkies should be long in body short in back...ideally back length should equal height. remember my chart was geared around my breedings...doesnt always work but is a general guide line...when in doubt 12 weeks x 2...although that doesnt always work Ive had some at 12-13 weeks weighing 2 lbs and only mature to 3lbs and others maturing to 5-6lbs.

If it were me.....I wouldn't go out and buy alot of clothes just yet...even though rule of thumb is double the weight at 12 weeks will give and approximate weight...you are not guarenteed that...USUALLY by 6 months they are pretty much done growing..they may gain a little more weight and fill out but not grow much more...I would maybe pick up a sweater for her but, wouldn't invest in a ton of stuff...JMO

| My boy was 2lbs at 12 weeks and now at 9 months is 6lbs (most likely fully grown now). 3lbs would be too small for a full grown yorkie, the breed standard comes in around 4 - 7 lbs .... anything smaller than that and your looking at runts of litters (yes some breeders will breed "smaller, teacup" sized dogs, but there is a lot of health risks in having a smaller than average dog). I'd hold off buying much (maybe a winter coat if your in a cooler climate) until your sure of the size ... check out your local Target for some good quality fair priced winter coats if you need one. |

| Welcome to YT! When she gets old enough for all the outfits you want to buy, take her to a pet friendly store and fit her. Like someone else mentioned, they are all different. Teri

| Even XXS, XS, and S vary between companies. You should just wait until she is older to buy more stuff for her.
