Need information right now!!!!! My yorkie is getting neutered tomorow morning and I forgot to ask the secretary if he's supposed to stay away from food and water from 12:00am until after the surgery I know that when humans get surgery they have to have it done on an empty stomach or they'll throw-up for hours/days due to the anesthesia So if anyone knows please tell me ASAP!

| I was told to withold food and water after 10pm the night before my dog was neutered. So maybe do 10pm just to be on the safe side. Good luck with his neuter!

Definitely no food. Some will say they can have water but when I had my yorkie spayed/neutered I didn't give them any water either.

My vet says no food after midnight and no water after 6 a.m. on the day of surgery. Never had a problem with that routine..I worry so much about these little ones becoming dehydrated but my vet starts an IV as soon as we get there..right after they draw blood for the pre-op panel..It is so great when you have a vet in whom you have complete trust..

Thanks for the info everyone The secretary actually just called to tell me not to give him any food but I'm also not going to give him water because I fear he'll get sick and I know what it feels like from having surgery 2 years ago and throwing up for days :/ Thanks again!

my roxie gets spayed the 26th of this month, im soo nervous too, i was told no food after 7, and to leave water out for her, because if your baby is tiny, she/he risks getting dehydrated, so i would leave her water throughout the night, and maybe a tad bit to keep her mouth moist in the morning before you go. I made sure the vet was going to use the gas anesthesia, that makes me feel a lil more comfortable about having her spayed, im still so nervous, shes still so small, and it just worries us mommys!

I was told no food after 10 pm. Right before I went to pick him up ,they made sure they had already given him water so at least he wasn't dehydrated. He ate a tiny bit of food when he got home . Make sure you ask for pain medication. I was asked if I wanted some pain med for him and I said no. I regret it!! About 6 hrs later I had a crying, wimpering furbaby in my arms. I ended up giving him baby motrin less than 1/4 tsp. Genie
