| Babybear scared the living daylights out of me!!!!!!!! Hi everyone, I am now able to breathe again. Earlier tonight I had let my two big furbabies out to go to the bathroom. They come to the door when they are done. Well Bubba (the really big guy) was taken forever. So I haulered to him. Well Babybear got mad because Bubba was giving me a hard time coming in. He got so mad that he pushed himself right out of his laundry basket and onto the floor. Now mind you this is the most I have seen this Baby move that much in 9 weeks. He rolled out and put himself in a differant position. I thought for sure he reinjured himself. (over protected mom, I know) I was only about three feet away from him when it happend and couldn't get to him fast enough. He never cried or anything. Of course I picked him right up and checked every little centermeter of his body. He of course looked at me as if to say what is wrong with you mom. But when it happend my heart leaped out of my chest and into my throat. My heart is still beating a mile a minute. So now I have laid him on the floor on a nice soft blanket. This way he can't roll out of the basket anymore. (just a reminder he is the one that broke his neck 9 weeks ago and had surgery to correct it.) One thing I can say he still rules the house. Bubba went and hid in a corner when he got in the house. I was so wrapped up in Babybear I didn't even scold him. Babybear did it for me. See before Babybear got hurt he would chase Bubba around the house to let him know he did something wrong. lol I would have to pick Babybear up to stop it all from happening. Hopefully he will keep wearing the pants in the house. lol Now one thing I would like to ask. I have been so over protected with him. I don't let anyone else hold him or do anything with him. I am so scared that he will get hurt again. I have him with me twenty-four-seven. I have fed him and he wouldn't eat. As soon as I leave the room (I leave the food there for him) he will move to get the food and eat it. I have walked in when he is moving his head in a differant direction then I have seen since the surgery. Am I holding him back from getting better. I put him on his back legs and he will stand there for a few minutes, but the front legs are to weak. I put him in his cart( I made it so I don't know if it is right or not) he will stand there with his back legs. His front legs buckle under him. So should I start letting him try to do more things on his own. Hubby says yes. Because at this stage of the game Babybear knows mommy will do it for him if he doesn't do it.(move a paw, roll him, ect.) Please good or bad I would love to hear your commments.....Thank you so much for here me out and letting me vent. Val |

| I'm so glad Baby Bear didn't get hurt again! What does your vet say regarding what he should be able to do now? I would go with whatever he says. If he thinks he should be doing more, then I'd start letting him do more. But, I'd check with the vet first so that he doesn't end up re-injuring himself. |

| The vet has said to keep him quite for 8 wks and then if he was better to let him do whatever. See at this point we thought for sure he would be walking a little bit. Vet made me get a playpen for Babybear after surgery to keep him quite. Didn't really need that because he hasn't really moved a whole lot. I don't have to go back to the vet for his neck again. He cleared him 3 weeks ago. Told me to give him a lot of pt and water therapy. |

| I don't blame you for being over-protective. I would probably be carrying Babybear around in a knapsack all the time if it were me. I agree with SJK1113. Just take it slow. He has to learn to walk again and he has to build up his muscles and coordination. Poor little guy has been thru so much, no wonder you want to protect him. But they are smart little buggers and it doesn't take long to figure out "why should I do the work if my mommy will do it for me?" I wish you luck, and don't worry too much, Babybear has proven he's a fighter and a lot tougher than you think. Hugs to him for being such a brave little Babybear.

| Well to tell you the truth I do carry him around in a pouch I made. He cries when I am at work and am driving around with the lady I take care of, because he has to sit in the backseat and can't see me very well. So I made a pouch for him and he now lays in there on my lap while I am driving. This scares me but it sure beats listening to him cry forever. Actually it isn't a cry it is a B tch out to mom. lol He loves the pouch. So I guess I am a little over protected. I have been doing water PT and range of motion pt on him since right after the surgery. He has done great with that. I guess I forgot to mention that. I am just hoping he will do more on his own now. |

| I don't blame you at all for being protective. That is just our nature, especially, after they've been hurt or sick. I would try to let him start out on his own. It will be natural for him to try. He will want to try. You might even hold him around his tummy and walk him a number of times a day if you aren't already. Knowing you, you are probably already doing this.

| A little update: I put Babybear on a blanket tonight on the floor with some cheese in front of him and he tried to move, but just laid there and cried for it. I lay him on his belly. I figure this way would be easier for him to move forward. I know one thing that gets him moving though is blowing in his face. He has always hated that. So because he gave up on the cheese. I told him he wants he has to get it. He got one piece and gave up. Any suggestions on something else for a treat that he would want to go after? How about chicken??? Hopefully he will be able to walk a little here soon. Oh and yes I do stand him up and hold his tale(surgeons orders) and put my hand under his chest and try and walk him like four or five times a day. But thank you for the suggestion. Val |

| Yeah! Chicken has such a delicious smell to them, it might even get him up! Cheerios? Pupcorn? Mine goes nuts for Hip Chips made by Greenies.

| Well I tried chicken it took him twenty minutes but he got there. He cried well not really cried he haulered all the way. I think I will try something else tomorrow. I also tried cheese he moved a little towards it had a bite or two and then didn't try for anymore. I will keep you all posted on how he is doing on moving around. I know he wanted to stand a lot tonight. I think that is a good sign. Now just to move. I met someone online a little over a week ago and she had a parylized yorkie. We contacted each other on Saturday and on Monday she told me that her baby passed away. Then she continued to write that she wants me to have all her little furbabies things so they can help my little guy walk again. So she is sending me a lot of things and a cart for my baby. I don't know how to thank her enough. She is sure our Angel. She was sent to us. All she wants is to make sure her baby's things help another baby walk. And I am going to try and make it happen. I just wanted to share that with you all. Because my heart still breaks for this new friend of ours. I am so sorry he baby passed and now my baby is going to get the extra help he needs. But like she said to me things happen for a reason. We were sent to each other for a reason. Thank you Val |

| awwwwww even though it took him 20 minutes, he did it!! That's great!!! I think as long as he's doing that a little each day, he'll soon be walking again. It will just take him some time. I'm sure he's very weak from not walking. I'm so sorry to hear of your friend's yorkie passing away. That's so sad. I'm glad you are getting more help. Good luck, will look for an update tomorrow! Go Baby Bear!! |
