New Puppy Hello, I am new to this forum and have a few questions: At what age can I bring my puppy home? At what age is the breeder suppose to cut the tail? Thank you.

The tails are docked when the pups are 3 to 5 days old. I think 10 weeks is a reasonable time to bring home a puppy, if you do not have to leave it alone, you have experience with toy dogs and it is at least 1 1/2 pounds, but many feel 12 weeks is better.

I don't let anything leave until 14 weeks often older, two vacc's done, tails done 3-5 days of age. Size would have to be minimum 2 1/2 lbs or it doesn't leave at 14 weeks either.

I think you've made a wise decision to leave the tail alone. I do dock my puppy's tails, but the more people who see undocked Yorkies, the more natural it will seem and eventually we will catch up with the rest of the world and ban it, right along with ear cropping. Heard about New York, but don't think it was passed - anyone have an update?????? Just looked at the AKC website (they're against it by the way) and a hearing date has not been set.
