| I bathed my puppy for the first time at 14 weeks. She had already had a bath at the breeders before that time

| reply Im asking because we got a 7 week old pup just yesterday and the breeder told us to wait until atleast may10th for her first bath. She doesnt really stink or anything, but part of the fun is bathing your dogs and grooming them:-) thanks |

| 7 weeks is really young for a puppy. It is so important when they are that young to make sure they stay warm at all times. The chill from a bath could be enough to make them sick. I wouldn't risk it. How much does your puppy weigh? Is he a larger pup? |

She bathes fine and even blow dries fine but when I try to put the eardrops and her shirt on she has a heart attack. She bites me and makes my hands bleed. I don;t know what to do, it makes me so mad. Please help! |

| I think the sponge baths are a good idea until they are at least ten weeks. If you do it earlier just make sure you are in a warm room and you blow dry immeditely after removing them from the water. If the adult weight will be 6 lbs the puppy is probably 2 lbs now and they are just so susceptibel to so many "bugs" if their immune system is compromised so I think it's wise to wait. |

| I got Lady when she was 7 weeks old and I bathed her the same day I got her.I put a small heater in the bathroom and made sure she couldent catch a chill,I dried her properly before letting her out and she was fine. She has a bath once a week ever since then Lady already had 2 shots when I got her so I was allowed to bathe her, infact she had already been bathed once when I got her.I got Jess at 8 weeks old and bathed her the very same day too and she was also fine, she had already been bathed before too so it wasnt anything new to either of mine. Both Lady and Jessies breeders (who are sisters) start bathing at 6 weeks old one week after their pups first set of shots. |

| What idiot let you take a puppy at 7 weeks old? That isn't even legal for regular puppies, much less tiny breeds! I know you didn't know better, but the breeder should have!

| Thats common here, all breeds are allowed home a couple of weeks after their first set of shots which takes places when they are 5 weeks old.I had never heard of a pup going home at 12 weeks,I guess its different in certain places. A friend of mine has 3 chihuahuas and she brought them all home at 6 weeks with no problems and all dogs are let go at around that age here, its just the norm.I actually preffere them coming home at 7 to 8 weeks because thats what Im used to and Iv never heard of anyone having problems due to this..after all,if it was so dangerous or risky breeders would have stopped doing it years ago.If they are still dong it its because they arent having problems and neither are the new owners |
