The fleas have to get on your dog to die , so maybe you have an outbreak of fleas and it may be time to think about spraying the yard and house to help with your problem.

There's some stuff you can buy to put down in the grass that helps keep fleas and other insects away. I can't think of the name of it right now, but you should be able to find it at any garden center or department store with a gardening dept. You might also need to bomb your house to get rid of all of them.

Good luck!!

P.S.--You'll need to make sure that it's something not harmful to animals.

You think there are fleas in the carpet? Grrr...this is so frustrating! I don't want to resort to spraying harmful chemicals around my house. Has anyone else had this problem?
Thanks ladies for your ideas!

With the spot on flea controls the flea has to bite your dog and then it will die so I'm not crazy about this form of control. Several of them are also washed off with baths. I prefer natural remedies like 1 drop of citronella oil, 1 drop of lemon grass oil, 1 drop of tea tree oil to 1 ounce of water (also effective against ticks) and then just spritz them before going outside or a couple of times a day so they don't even have to get bit in the first place.

Most likely your carpet is full of fleas and eggs. Try cutting up a flea collar and placing a piece in your vacuum or vacuum up some flea powder. Then vacuum the whole house at least once a day. I would also treat the yard with a flea control.

Here's a good link to all the different flea control products.http://www.naturalhealthtechniques.c...a_control1.htm

we were using revolution and had never had a flea problem until the begining of the summer this year. i switched to frontline plus and got busy on the house right away. it don't think it was a failure of the revolution, i think it was just the fact that some got in the house. I was washing everything all the time and started spraying lemon or vinegar all around, sweeping, everything constantly. we finally got rid of them. Ahia was having the worse problem. she has an allergic reaction to the fleas. I spray the lawn once every month with the misquito treatment which also takes care of fleas and ticks and various other things. I buy it at walmart usually. I generally get the ortho brand. they just can't go in the yard for a couple of days. the bottle says until it drys but i wait longer just to be on the safe side.
hope this helps you.
I forgot to add that we switched to frontline plus too.

We use Advantage on our dogs..although the vet wanted to use Revolution on Reece because he is so young. Advantage has always worked for us..within a couple days the fleas are gone. I also use Borax to sprinkle on my carpets...leave it for a few hours (take the dogs to the spa hehe) and vacuum them up..throw away the vaccum bag and we are well on our way to a flea free house. Fleas are soooooooooooo annoying, but maybe try switching brands??

We had the same problem last summer! So frustrating isn't it?!
Switching brands did the trick for us, thank god! We were using advantage so we switched to frontline. My vet suggested switching between the brands every few applications.

Wink Organic Products?

I have the same problem every Summer, every Year! They get in the carpet, funiture every where.......I used to use Frontline Plus, Advantix etc. even over the counter sprays both of their fur got fried/burned off or scratched off from all the chemicals I was using on them their hair was too soft/silky for such harsh stuff. The only way I finally got rid of them: Moved into a House with wooden floors, I give them 1 "Capstar" pill, bathe them with a gentle shampoo and feed them "Flea Free" Natural Food Supplement it's $22.95 for 32 ounces I found it @ one of the 3 Pet Stores that I frequently buy from.
I use it year round just in case? Besides it's also supposed to be good for them too? So far that combination is the only thing that seems to work.
I take them to the Dog Park every day so it also kills what ever they pick up from there too! The only other thing would be to Flea Bomb your House & Flea dip your Baby, but I think the Fleas just grow immune to the Topical medicines, I'm a firm beleiver that Natural is Better! Good Luck

I've never bombed my home for fleas, just the thought of poison coating every surface in my home just doesn't sit well w/ me... I have heard that you can lightly dust your carpet w/ borax ( in the laundry soap dept.) or I've heard diatomaceous earth( must be food grade) can be lightly dusted in the carpet & the dogs bed & even lighly dusted on the dog to control fleas. You can check these things out for youself to see if it's something you might want to try.

Thanks for EVERYONE's response. I'm glad to know it's not just me! I wonder if this summer is worse than summers before? My friend who's dog has MAJOR flea problems brought her dog over here and that's when it all started!
Last night poor Thor had a huge rash all over his belly and legs from itching/nibbling so much! We too have hardwood floors, but have a few carpets...borax doesn't stain does it? I'm try those powders and vacumming.

Does anyone ever treat there dog with flea stuff every three weeks instead of every four? I hate using these toxcins on them more than I have to but anything woule be better than these pesky fleas!!

Thanks again for some fabulous ideas!

I use Frontline and it works, but it does not last the whole month. 2 different vets recommended that I use Frontline every 2 weeks instead of once a month. That is what I've been doing for the past couple of months now and it has definately done the trick. No more itching and scratching and no more fleas.

I agree with Lacy's Mom that you need to treat your house and your yard. Then try using the Frontline twice a month. I'm sure that will get rid of the problem.
