| abbie hi, my name is stephanie and i am worried about my female yorkie abbie who weighs about 3 pounds. She just got her period and she is doing fine. I also have a male yorkie and so i want to know about how long does her period last??? and if i am going to have to seperate them until her period ends? When can she get pregnant? I really dont want her to have puppies b/c the vet. told me she would need a c-section and so i think its complicated. I also done know wether to have her spayed now...or wait a little more...can someone give me some advice!!!! |

| I dont know tooo much about this, but I would keep them seperated until I got her spayed...which i would definately do. She just seems to small to me to have puppies. A lot of times these little ones just cannot do it and do not make it through the birth. Please have her spayed.

| My female is spayed so I am just reeating what I have heard here. Ithink their heat cycle is 21 days. You will want to keep them separated while she is in heat. I dont think Vets like to spay them when they are in heat. Three pounds is definitely to tiny to have pups. I would definitely get her spayed as soon as you can

| I would definitely not breed a 3 pounder. Not only will you have the expense of the C-section, you might lose her in the process. There are 3 stages of heat - the first stage is the red blood and last for about 9 days - the next stage is when the dischage turns straw colored and this lasts for about a week and is usually the time mating occurs - the last stage lasts almost a week where the male will still be interested, but she will be very grouchy. Since mating can occur at any time during the 20 to 30 days I would keep them separated so you don't have an "accident". Belly bands and girl diapers are not effective methods of birth control. Get her spayed so you don't have to go through this again. Wait until after the heat cycle. Some vets will spay during a heat cycle, but I've heard it is more expensive and they lose more blood. |

| Wow I didn't realize they were in heat for so long. Doesn't sound like fun to me! If getting her spayed is too expensive for you, there is a program at PetSmart where you put $99 down and pay $19/month for the Puppy Wellness package. I think you pay the $19/month until they're a year old. But that package does cover getting them spayed/neutered (which saves a TON of money). Plus it covers all shots and vet visits.

| thanks!! Thanks... i will seperate them for the rest of the days until her period is gone. I will also try and take her to the vet...to check her out cause i've gone out to class and they have been alone and i wonder if something has happened ajajaja but i dont think so cause she is very sensitive right now. She get angry everytime he tries to smell her or even if i try to clean her up she wants to bite me jajajajaa ...I will definetly spay after her heat is gone. Thanks again for your advice... I will let you know once everything is over!!! stephanie |

| The vet isn't going to be able to tell until she is about 25 days pregnant so I don't think that would do any good. If the blood is still red then most likely nothing has happened. |
