| stud service or get him fixed? I wouldn't mind Ferdinand being a stud, but I don't know anything about it. Are there pros/cons to getting a male yorkie fixed or letting him help reproduce? I don't want him to be running around all the time trying to "get it on" with everyone's leg. I just don't know which way to go!

| Joey wears a belly band so marking isn't an issue. He's never tried humping anything other than an in heat female either. So it's basically whatever you feel most comfortable doing..

| I don't know this, because we have never used Mojo for a stud dog, but I was told that a lot of times, their temperments change too. Like, they can be more aggrassive, not as loving/cuddly, etc. And that their urine is more crystalized, thicker and smellier too. Like I said, I don't know this for a fact, but that was one big issue for us not breeding him. I guess I didn't want his sweet personality to change......I don't know....have you talked to your vet? I know mine was a big help. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | My rescue Jack has a perianal hernia that the vet said was caused because he was neutered late in life. It requires surgery. My feeling is there is only one reason to breed dogs: To improve the breed. If you have a "perfect" Yorkie, breed him. If not, neuter him.

Keep in mind that even neutering does not always stop them from humping and marking. I know several people who have males that are neutered, and were neutered at a young age, that will hump and mark everything. So there are never any guarantees with male dogs. But if you are not going to breed them, then you should neuter them because they are at a higher risk for cancer to develop.

| Please, please, please do a lot of research. I've have been researching for over a year and have yet tp breed my first litter. (that will come shortly) There are a lot of cons that you want to consider and really ONLY one pro and Mike said it already. That is to improve the breed... |

Sugar still hasn't been neutered. The female he is to mate with just had her first heat so they haven't been together yet. When she goes into her second heat, they will hopefully be bred successfully and I will have him neutered. Like I said, this was not up to me but it was a condition that I gladly agreed to because it's worth it to me to have Sugar. I have read that some dogs stop marking and some don't. My mom has a almost 3 yr. old yorkie who was neutered at 6 months and he still marks so you never know. As far as the urine being stronger or thicker as someone mentioned, that is not the case with Sugar with regular urination. His markings are stronger than regular urine. As far as not being cuddly and sweet, nothing could be farther from the truth in our case. Sugar couldn't love me more and wants to be held and loved all of the time. I have honestly never had a sweeter dog. My daughter's neutered male Spike is the same way with her. We also have a spayed female Gracie who doesn't want anything to do with affection- only wants to play or be left alone. Basically, I think they all have their own personalities and in my house at least, it doesn't seem to be affected by neutering or not neutering.

| That is all because he hasn't been bred yet. After breeding, yes the urine is stronger smelling, Yes they mark, and they lose their little heads whenever they get around a cute girl. As Alaska Yorkie said, unless your dog is "perfect" inside and out (if you need this defined, please don't hesitate to ask!) he should be neutered. Quote:
