| Anyone else live in a state where you just vaccinate every other year? That's the way it is here. Kacee was vaccinated this year, but won't require more until 2008. My vet said they are trying to get state law changed to every three years. Here's an article about the titer tests in case anyone is interested. http://vetmedicine.about.com/od/vacc...vacctiters.htm

| Vaccinate Rarely I am in Ontario, and I vaccinate only every three years. I lost a Beagle in 2002 to a rabies shot-she was 13, and had them yearly, and years ago, had to stop giving shots to another Beagle, when he reached seven. I vaccinate pups completely, then give their boosters at one year. After that, I move to three year intervals, as I believe we vaccinate too often and too much. Kia was last done in 2004, and will be receiving rabies in 2007; I have not yet decided about the other shots. I don't give Leptospirosis at all, as from walking through the bush and fields, the dogs have already been exposed and developed their own immunity, and I have a low opinion of some other shots, ie Bordatella. I still give my horses yearly rabies shots, as there is no proof of how long they last in equines. They also get annual tetnus shots, of course. Most others? I only give some shots to horses that travel, and since mine do not, anymore, they get only the two I mentioned. |

| That's good to know. I live outside the city limits. I didn't get Muffin a rabies shot after she got older. I had heard some bad things about them and older yorkies, so I suppose it was a good thing. I was afraid it would be too much for her.

| Karen--How did you find out about only having to do it every other year? I asked my vet about it last year & they said it was mandatory by law to do it every year in Kansas. I actually just got Lucky's rabies shot today too....didn't ask about it being every other year though. Do you have any links or anything about only doing it every other year? That way I could show my vet. Thanks!

| Hi stranger! Got it straight from the vet. You know, the one who raises yorkies? Kacee's rabies tag shows an expiration date of 09/08!

| Hi! Hmmmm......guess I need to make a call to the vet next week & ask them about it. Lucky's rabies tag just says 2006 for the year he got it in.

| Well I called the vet today & they said the state of Kansas still requires to have the rabies shot every year! I told them I knew someone in Kansas who said their vet said every other year & they told me that was wrong! I'm so confused! Why would 2 vets say different about the Kansas laws?

| Got me! Ask them to quote you the kansas statute number where it is stated that they are required to be vaccinated annually. I looked at her new tag again. It doesn't say 09/08. It says 07-08, I suppose, because it is supposed to be for 2007 and 2008. I also have a certificate.
