| Harness or collar? Recently, I had my Sissy tested for the good citzen award. She did not make it because she did not heal long enough. However, the Instructor told me I should be useing a collar leash to train her and walk her. Has anyone else heard this also. I always thought that a collar leash could hurt their throat over time Do they make training leashes small enough for tiny dogs? And exactly what does a trainer leash look like

| I am not sure about a trainer leash, unless they mean choke collars, which do just that, choke the dog until they relax and quit pulling against it. I only use collars on my furkids for their id tags and rabies tags. For walks and going places and stuff, I use harnesses. I just feel it is safer and I won't attach a leash to their collar.

| I wouldn't risk using a collar. You're right about their throats - Yorkies are susceptible to collapsing tracheas. My dog doesn't have any trachea issues, but anytime he ever puts pressure on his throat he ends up coughing.

| I have ALWAYS used harnesses on mine too because I am afraid of the collapsed traqia thing too. I wouldnt want to risk it. I love the harness vests the most because there is absolutely NO preasure on their little necks.

| I think your instructor is WAY OFF BASE. All your baby needs is more work. I haven't worked much with the yorkies, so they are not too well behaved -- we are working on it. However, Boo the Boxer heels off leash, the two Irish setters I had would heel TANDEM OFF LEASH no matter what distractions might be present. GOOD LUCK! YOU CAN DO IT! I would work with your baby, find a different testor and once you have your Award, go do a demo for the first trainer. |

The answer to your question, is YES they do make training collars small enough for your little one, the real question, though is do you really want to use one? | |

| Oh no! I just finished an obeidance class with my baby and they had me buy a choke collar for her. I use collars on her. Is it really bad? I do not want her to get a collapsed trachea. Can you train them in a harness? lisa |

| I have used both. Not a choke collar, just a show lead. My breeder gave me one and that's what she used in showing her dogs. It's not hurt her at all. Maybe they just meant a collar lead like all the people use that show dogs.

| My girl Daisy loves her harness. I prefer to use it because it as you say does not choke her, but if you are trainning your dog a collar leash is best. Atleast that's what I have been told. Good Luck!
