Puppy Proofing...

I've got a general question with respect to Puppy Proofing your homes...

I'd love some additional ideas as to how you have puppy proofed your home...

In addition, what do you do with those incidental items that are normally just out, like tissues, mail, etc...

I'd love some more ideas!

The biggest thing we did was to tape any electrical chords together - Tia has never gone after them.

As to the other stuff, I have left them out and watch like a hawk. She now knows what is acceptable to play with, although she still can't resist the toilet paper!

we didnt do anything to puppy proof our apartment.......... toby realized early on that he wasnt supposed to chew on our stuff because of bitter apple spray............ so i guess that was teh only thing (and i only had to apply it once)..... but then again, he is crate trained and isnt alllowed to be in the house alone

we put up gates so they cant get near my brother room and the litter boxes oh please kakyo loves tissues we keep them covered at all times lol our yard is more puppy proofed than our house our guniea pig can run loose and not go anywhere

My 2 15 wk old puppies do not get the run of the house. There are rooms they have never seen yet, someday they will but that is a privilage they must earn
I have 2 gates up that I use to keep them contained in the kitchen/dining room where I have hardwood laminate flooring (easy to clean up) After school and work that is where most of the action is- someone is always in the kitchen so they don't feel lonely or neglected...
After dinner, when every is going into the family room to watch TV or use the computer they get to come in there with us, but then they still only have the run of the kitchen/dining room and family room.

I try to look at is as if Schatzie was a baby or small child. And do as you would any of such...

Gates on stairs

Covers on electrical outlets

Medicines and poisons up high

Cords wrapped or hidden

Don't place fur baby on high places without CONSTANT supervision

Spray furniture with apple bitter spray to take urge away from chewing

Hide all toilet paper, paper towels, any chewable papers behind closed doors, etc

Just general stuff like mentioned above...If it isn't safe for a human baby most likely it isnt safe for your fur baby.

We are the same way, Bella (14 wks) when we are home has run of the family run, dining room, kitchen and there is a baby gate in the hallway that leads to the rest of the house. She has seen my daughter's room as she sleeps in a playpen in there but hasn't been able to roam in there.

I wondered what I would do with the spare bedroom which has the cat pans once I do open the rest of the house to her. I heard they love the cat pans and I guess I will have to figure out how to put them up.

Bella loves the electric cords, so we taped them with white duct tape to the wall since she can get behind the couches.
