How Old?

Guss is 6 months old now. I was just wondering how old he has to be before starting to stud. My parents have a female that lives with me and Gus, so I was wondering how old a male yorkie has to be in order to stud.

I believe they have to be atleast 8 to 9 months old in order for the pups from a litter to be registered. Although in my opinion they should be atleast a year old before they are used as a stud. Most good breeders wait until they are atleast a year old. Alot of males don't get the hang of it until then anyways.

you can also go to the AKC website to check the specifics and to see how many breedings per year/lifetime require DNA testing.

The stud has to be at least 7 months to register but most breeders wait untill a year old

I waited until Ceeby was a year old and he still didn't know what to do with it the first day. LOL. he has a rabbit chair (stuffed toddler chair) and Silk got to flirting and prancing around him and he ran and jumped up in his rabbit chair and gave her this look that said, 'what the heck". didn't take him long to figure it out tho.
