I have a 7 months old yorkie and a 1 1/2 year old Lab. they been get along great. But lately my Yorkie has been acting out alot and not in a good way. He's been humping my lab every chance he gets. Max aka the lab is a neutured male and Munchkin aka the yorkie is a male not yet neutured. I'm having a big problem with this mostly because I have young kids in the house and it's also very unpleasant.
What I think we need to do is to get him a girlfriend, but I don't know any yorkie owners in my area, so that is kinda hard for me. any Ideas what else I can do? I heard that even when theyare neutured they still do the humping thing. Is there anybody in the S. Florida area that would like to get the dogs together at a park or something? I know it sounds weird but anything not to see this anymore.

Your dog is trying to show dominance over the lab. I don't think it is sexual. Besides, getting him some won't keep him from humping. My dogs mated and had puppies last spring, and my male will still try to mount any of the other dogs and hump them. He does it to show he's "in charge".

I don't know what to tell you about the children and all. I hope you figure out how to handle that situation. Maybe some YT'ers can give you advice on that.

My lab is very very melo and doesn't mind anything that munchkin does, even when his being mean.

Welcome to YT. Can't wait to see pics of the pups. I agreed, your yorkie is showing dominance. Are you planning to neuter him? If you do, the sooner the better. If you don't want him to hump tell him "No" in a stern voice and keep him away from Max. Good luck.

A 7 month old unneutered male is most DEFINITELY humping for sexual reasons!

That is why they recommend you neuter them before 6 months!

If you neuter him now you still have a chance of correcting the behavior.

I was planning on breeding him with my sister's dog, so my mom could have a pup too, but a month ago my sister got a yorkie but decided that she wanted a male insted of a female, now I don't know if I'll ever breed him, and nuetering is so expencive that I'm not sure about it yet. I have a friend that said that her neutered dog still humps, so I don't know if it would correct this.

I would get him neutered asap! Chance stopped humping things after he was neutered.

A lot of dogs hump - some certainly more than others.

Even female dogs hump sometimes. And - I agree that it is not particularly pleasant to have it going on in your front room...with children, company, etc.

My little Yorkie hasn't ever been much of a humper, but he has done it occasionally. I took a stuffed toy animal away from him because it was what he seemed to want to hump the most. When he was real little, he often tried to hump my other dog's leg.

I just did what I do with other unwanted behavior. I'd get up and go get him and tell him "NO NO NO," and get him interested in something else. I stopped this behavior everytime I saw him doing it.

He's still not neutered (11 months old) -- but rarely humps anything anymore.

I think a lot of this problem has to do with your dog's individual personality. I know that my male Yorkie is the most laid back, submissive, little guy in the world. He just isn't much of a humper. I would suspect that a more outgoing, dominant-type personality - would exhibit this behavior much more.

Get your pup neutered..... even though it doesn't alway stop humping - it usually lessens it.

Alphy was doing the same to my female spayed Golden about a week ago. For about 2 weeks, but he's stopped now. I think she was giving off signals or something.

J.J. (almost 11 weeks old) is humping his teddy bear as well. That's the only toy he does that to (it's a plush dog almost twice the size of him), he plays nicely with other plush toys though. I originally wanted him to snuggle to that dog at night LOL... I took it away but my husband says he does it to show dominance and it's not fair to take away the only thing he can dominate ..... I am planning to have him neutered, but if it's not sexual behavior (could it be at less than 3 months of age??) that will not get rid of it, no?

I would not take it away from him. My Breeder told me it is good when they find a stuffed animal to hump. It keeps them from trying to hump your leg or other animals in the house. It is totally a dominance thing. Since Chachi was neutered he very seldom humps his teddy bear but he still does do it. Just not very often.
