| Vet Bills! I just got back from taking Roxy and Gibson to the vet. I spent $250! and it seems I am always spending that! I can't wait to switch vets. Some of you might of read my thread on how unhappy I am with my vet. After Gibson gets his next shots I will definitely switch. They keep confusing them and if I was not on top of things they would of given Gibson worm medication when Roxy was the one who needed it! I also asked them to express Roxy's anal glands and they did it to Gibson instead, then when I pointed it out they went back and did it to her and then still charged me for it!Gibson just had a health check three weeks ago and I decided to take him in with Roxy this week because both of them had been coughing... well they gave him another health check and its $50 each time! Ok sorry, I just had to vent...... I love my doggies, so anything to keep them healthy, I just feel this vet overcharges. |

| Some vet bills can be expensive but you probably have to find the right vet who can fulfill your needs as a the patient's owner... Also have you had the chance of having pet insurance. click the link below and see if they the pet insurance company in your area. Here is link: www.banfield.net I hope this helps you.

| Please do not take your babies to banfield, i worked there, and quit, it was a horrible place, the vet gets commision for every pet they see, and they are all about selling the "wellness plans" they push and push those on people. Also, the vet techs, are just normal people, trained to do what most people in REAL vets go to school for and graduate with. I was going to be trained as a pet nurse, untill i found out all the background stuff people dont know about. I quit, and promised myself i would never take my baby to any banfield, those vets only care about one thing, and thats money. please whatever you guys do, do not take your babies to banfield |

| that place is no good, I think most people think its reputable only because its located in petsmart, and I thought the same thing, thats why i applied for the front desk, and i found out all the stuff "people dont want you to know" they STRONGLY advise everyone to buy a wellness plan, and the vet makes it KNOWN to everyone working there THE ONLY REASON SHE IS THERE, IS TO TREAT AND DIAGNOSE. She is not there to draw blood, to give shots, to clean, nothing, she is only there too diagnose basically, the pet nurse's do the shots, the dips, the bloodwork, the fecals, they do everything. I'm sorry but would you really want a person without proper training to give shots to your babies? I SURE DONT!!! The vet is there to train you, and teach you how to do everything, then its up to you. I know i dont want some girl, which im sure she looks nice and harmless, but she doesn't have the proper training to be doing any of those procedures! |

| Thank You Ashley Thank you Ashley. After I got my yorkie I was going to get pet insurance from there. Thank you for informing me. I never knew they were in PetsMart. Do you know a pet insurance company to recommend?

| Banfield is a vet hosptial inside all of petsmarts, the www.banfield.net is the website for them. I've always heard pet insurance is gonna cost ya, they only pay a little for surgery, broken bones things like that, nothing like going to the vet and getting their shots, or routine exams, but i dont know much about it, so i may be wrong. if you go to this link they will explain what the "wellness plan" is, http://www.banfield.net/health/owp_puppies.asp you make payments every month, for a year, then you renew your plan, but if for any reason you decide to cancel it, and go to a REAL VET, they charge you a big cancelation fee, i cant quite remember the cost, but i know its ridiculous to have to pay to cancel, when you're not satisfied with the service. They are just in it for the money, thats why anytime you bring a new pet there, they push and push for these wellness plans, they are more worried about the retail aspect of the business, then helping pets. Its like when you go to sears, or even target now, they push these credit cards on you, because they get a commision for every person they get to sign up for a credit card ( i worked at sears for 2 years) retail shouldnt really be involved in pet care Last edited by ashley; 04-23-2005 at 12:14 PM. | AKC offers an insurance policy. Is that any good. My new litter when they are old enough to leave the nest will have a 60 trial for the new parents. I use to work for a vet as well. Most good vets will not charge you unrealistic prices, and if they do you need to find someone else. Their cost to provide the service is well below what they charge to perform it. Annabelle has been to the animal hospital 3 days in a row, and we probably have spent 12+ hours there. Our bill has yet to be over 100. Cheap is not always better, you definitly have to meet the people and maybe get referrals from people you know.

| Glad to hear good things about VPI. I was just looking at that this morning. I looked over the company and it's A+ rating and was very comfortable with it. It is the one that I think I am going to go with-wasn't that expensive either. There is one other-I cannot remember what it was called, but it had garfield all over. I cannot find in on the search engine now. Does anyone else have good things to say about any type of insurance? AKC sent me the free 3 months awhile back, but I didn't think I realy needed it, now of course I've changed my mind. |

| I recently added sami on VIP! Tilly has been insured by them for just about 3 years, and they are fair and reasonable! actually less expensive than our own health care |

| My dog's vet bills aren't too bad I dont think. For a normal check-up they charge about $20-something. For shots etc. It's usually around $50 or so. Depending on what she's getting done. I had her hopspitalized for 4 days and was charged $400-something, which they quoted $600 to begin with..so I feel like they don't overcharge me. Is this normal vet costs? I dont know what "normal" and "outrageous" is. Thanks! Also, does anybody know how much it is to get my puppy fixed? She's about 5 months and I need to get it done soon.. |
