Questions about Weight & DNA... Hello all, this may need to be posted in the breeder section...I'm not sure. I haven't posted in awhile for I've been busy painting my living room, kitchen, bathroom and hallway. And taking care of my babies! Children & Puppies! LOL! Anyway. I have a few questions on my babies and their parents. Here they go...1st off Tiffanie's Grandpa on her Father's side has been DNA, On her Mother's Side (Her Mom's Dad's Side (Paternal?? May have that wrong??) her Grandpa & G. Grandpa has been DNA, On her Mother's Side (Her Mom's Mom's (Maternal?? May have that wrong too?? Forget which is which there!) of her G. Grandpa has been DNA...Now Teddy's: Teddy's Dad, Grandpa, & G. Grandpa on his Dad's side has been DNA, On his Mother's side his Grandpa, G. Grandpa on his Mother's Dad's side has been DNA, and on his Mother's G. Grandpa on his Mother's Mom's side has been DNA. Now do U charge more to sell the puppies when their family has been DNA? Or not? #2. My babies were 10 weeks and 3days old yesterday and I weighed them and this is their weights: #1. Male: 2 lbs. 11.4 oz. #2. Male: 3 lbs. 4.6 oz. #3. Female: 3 lbs. 2.6 oz. #4. Female: 2 lbs. 13.8 oz.s...When I go to sell them & the people ask how big will they be what do I tell them? This is my 1st litter and I don't know everything about it so I'm still learning. Tiffanie is yesterday weighted: 10 lbs. 4 oz. and Teddy yesterday weighted: 6 lbs. 7.2 ozs. They both are 1 & 1/2 years old. Any help here would be greatly apprecaited! I'll try to post photos later of them...They all 4 are so precious! Hugs Lee

| DNA testing is required by the AKC for any stud producing 7 or more litters in his lifetime or more than 3 in a calendar year. This does not add any 'value' to the pups, it is merely a method of record keeping. The size of the pups will depend not only on the size of the parents, but on grandparents etc..as well. You need to know the dogs in the pedigree to make an accurate prediction. Please carefully screen prospective homes and insist on spay/neuter certification before releasing registration.

I don't think DNA adds to the value. I would tell prospective purchasers that they are going to be 7 pounds or more.

Please carefully screen prospective homes and insist on spay/neuter certification before releasing registration. __________________ Stacy and the crew Stacy, Why should I insist on spay/neuter cerification before releasing registration? I don't understand that. When I bought both of my babies there was no talk of me doing that with them. They have all been vet checked and will go for their 2 shots and 2nd wormer this coming Friday...Their parents are healthy also...Couldn't of ask for a more smoother, better whelping and tending to puppies and weaning then from Tiffanie. Nevre lost a one for a 1st litter (Not saying that won't ever happen) and I will only breed Tiffanie once a year so it will not be hard on her. ALL my dogs are on Vet recommended Science Diet (Tiffanie and Teddy has had nothing else to eat except that since we got them @ 6 weeks and 8 weeks old & neither has their puppies) Can U explain why U think I should not let the others who buy our babies not breed them? I will screen prospective homes...I really am even wondering about letting them go to any homes that has smaller children...I know that may sound bad but when we 1st got Teddy, my 9 year old daughter jumped off the kitchen counter and jumped right on Teddy...I thought he was really hurt but by the Grace of God he wasn't one bit! I've never forgotten that either...And yes I have 2 young daughters 10.5 & 7.5 and yes they are around the babies...NEVER do they stand up with them and when they go to walk out of the room they wait for us to get the babies. I wouldn't even let neighbor kids come see them outside until they was 8 weeks old and then they too had to stay setting on the ground...Even now @ 10 weeks old if we take them outside the other kids have to go out to the back yard or vise versa...I just don't want to risk them getting hurt. Thanks for U're thoughts. Hugs, Lee

I spent much time to build the line I have now that I will not allow a new owner to ruin it by having her dog to a cute Yorkie of his or her neighborhood. This may sound a little harsh but a breeder that is dedicated to the breed will protect it . All the puppies that I don't keep for myself are spayed or neutered before leaving my home .

1) I would say that your little pups shouldn't be bred because they will probably be larger than standard..... 2) As far as size - I would tell prospective buyers the mother's and father's weight - and would expect them to be somewhere in between. But, you certainly need to tell them also that no one can guarantee what an adult Yorkie's weight will be - all you can do is give your honest opinion. My little guy's mother weighed 12 pounds and his father weighed 4 1/2 pounds. I was told that he would probably weigh between 5 and 10 pounds. I think that was a very fair estimate. Today at 11 months -- 1) My Yorkie weighs 9 or 10 pounds. 2) One litter brother weighs 6 pounds. 3) Another litter brother weighs 5 pounds. I could have registered my pup - but since he is a pet and I am not going to breed or show him, I choose not to register him. I could care less about any DNA testing......and wouldn't have paid a penny more for that information. Good luck! Carol Jean
