| Ant bites are dangerous! I took Riley (15 wks old) outside to potty this afternoon after a major rain storm this morning. She was fine one minute & then she moved & I saw ants coming out out of grass. Riley started to rub her body in the grass. I hurried & picked her up. Her underside was covered in ants. I raced to the water faucet but the ants were everywhere. I ran in the house screaming her help. Between me. my daughter & my husband we got the ants off. But she had lots of bites. She was shivering & very quiet. I called her vet but they just said to watch her & bring her in if she started to swell. I was still concerned. I called my friends that own a pet store. They told me to give her 1/8 teaspoon of Benedryl & put Hyrocordizone on the bites. Funny, I felt better about their advise than the vet's! About 30 minutes after I noticed Riley's was having a hard time keeping her left eye open. I again called the vet & they said bring her in. Apparently, the poison from the ants effected her eye. They found 5 dots (scratches) on the color of her eye. I'm to give her eye drops & Benedryl every 8 hours & I have to take her back on Wednesday. I'm so glad I brought her in. The vet said if the scratches get infected, Riley could lose her eyesight. Needless to say, Riley's staying right by my side. |

| I'm so sorry I got bit by one last week and it hurt something fierce. I can't imagine having that many all over me. I hope she soon feels better. Good thing you took her on in to the vet.

Donating YT 14K Club Member | How horrible! I hate ants...PERIOD! Gracie was bitten by some on her paws once and you'd think someone tied firecrackers to her paws she was jumping up so high. Take care of your baby. The benadryl is a good idea plus it'll help keep them a little sedated. Dealt with an eye injury a couple of weeks ago and they are no fun. But, the eye is one organ that heals pretty fast. Hugs to your furbaby!

| Hope Riley feels better soon and does not have any lasting injuries! I brought my first Yorkie to Grand Cayman with me and there were a lot of red ants. They are pretty fierce little creatures and if it were not for biting my husband first God knows what would have happened to my little angel |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | POOR BABY ! That must have hurt SO bad ! I was bit too the other day and my foot was on fire....I check my yard every day in houston and the other day was spraying an ant hill while STANDING in another one - THEY SUCK !! My girls have been lucky so far and not been bit but the allergic reaction to ant bites can also be deadly - Your little Riley must be hurting and keep the cream on her tummy - Also - spraying the yard on a regular basis helps - After alot of rain they come out worse and that's why we had ant hills recently - usually... I don't have any because I treat the whole yard.. I hope she feels better and her eye will be ok - Chanel and Cheri send get well smoochies to Riley |

| Thanks everybody! This morning Riley's eye looks much better. It's wide open & not glassy at all. She's a real trooper! Her tummy has dozens of ugly bites, but she playing & eating fine. She didn't run into the grass this morning like she usually does. I will be going to the store TODAY & buying something to treat the yard. But I'll have to read & make sure it won't hurt Riley. |

| Ant bites hurt... Buckeye also got into an ant hill a few weeks ago. He was bit all over. it took a while to get him into the house (we were not close), I doused him in water, applied some neosporin on all the bites that I could see. then watched him closely. He didn't have a bad reaction, like Riley, other than the pain of the bites. I was holding him so I had them on me too.

| Reese'sMom My baby was bitten by ants on Saturday. They are very dangerous. I found him laying on his side limp as a dish rag. I bathed him immedieately and my husband called the vet. They told me to give him 1ml of benedryl and to watch him closely. Thank goodness he did come around eventually. I'm so glad because there for a while i thought i might have to rush him to the vet. |

| 8ANGEL I see you're from LA too. Ants are terrible here. Riley actually got into the ants again not long after that 1st time. But I gave her Benadyl & she was fine. I bought some stuff to sprinkle on the yard (from Sam's Warehouse) that guarantees to get rid of ants for a year. It didn't work! I going back to Home Depot to buy the more expensive brand that actually worked. Glad to hear that your baby is ok. And welcome to YorkieTalk. There's lots of great people here with lots of great info. |
