Can I ask a question. I called the breeder and checked on my new puppy. She said the puppy is doing well no problems at all. My question is why is it so bad to get a pup at 8wks old? I got Andy at this age and he had no problems at all. He ate well , very friendly and did well with crate training.I just wonder what would be the prob with getting them at this age? I am so excited about the puppy, I havent picked a name yet so we will see once we get her. Can you keep a puppy/short cut on a girl? the long hair isnt something I really want. Its pretty but too much up keep. I have seen where people have the small harness, where can I find those? Does someone here make those? Thanks for the help. Roughly4/5 weeks and my baby will be home .

Many one here have gotten them at 8 weeks, myself included. But they do so much better being with their siblings and Mom. Then there is also the concern of hypoglycemia. These little guys can play so hard and then fall asleep and forget to eat, and then die in their sleep. So they have to be watched very carefully. It also depends on whether or not you work or are able to be at home with the puppy. If you are gone all day I would say definitely Do NOT get it at 8 weeks. I hope that answers your question.

Then -- I used to think that getting a puppy at 8 weeks was the way to go. Chattie and Chizzie both came home under 8 weeks and they thrived, ate, grew and are wonderful.... NOW -- I am raising a litter of pups, actually, Chizziewink is raising the pups, I am just helping. Anyway, I have learned so much from watching this process, I now believe beyond a shadow of a doubt that pups need that extra 3 to 4 weeks with their mom to learn things that only a mommy dog can teach them. Learning to become dogs will help them to be confident and secure -- think it as puppy kindergarten with their siblings as classmates and mom as teacher. Most new dog owners who can spend 24/7 with a new pup and monitor the health condition closely can raise up a young pup, but you cannot teach that pup appropriate inter-personal relationships.

I got mine at 7 weeks. But i am sure it's much better to wait until 12 weeks, for pups sozialisation.

Harness source As for the harness, you might want to check out http://go.fetch.home.comcast.net/ I ordered the smallest size for my new baby. She is still with her Yorkie Mom.
