| what do you think? ok, as most of you know my cousins yorkie sophie is in heat right now (YAY!) and she already has her boyfriend as we call him and now we are just waiting for them, to, well, ok i'll say it we are waiting for them to get it on so do you think when the puppies are actually here that i could get one a little bit earlier than 12 weeks, cause shes my cousin and all and we always see each other so its not like there gonna be seperated completely. im just VERY anxious and want my lil yorkie asap , so you think it would be ok to get the puppy a little earlier and if so, how much earlier? oh and if not, why? thanks!

| I would wait and see when that time comes, but if everything goes smoothly as it should, then I think that in your situation that it would be fine to get your puppy earlier than 12 weeks. If the puppy is eating healthily on its own and is completely weaned off mama, then the puppy should be safe to bring home around 7 or 8 weeks. Now, some people may disagree with me...this is just MY opinion. I brought both my babies home before 12 weeks...one at 7 weeks and one at 8 weeks. But, just because I did this does not mean it is the best thing to do. It is good that your cousin and you are so close because if anything DOES happen and you need to take the puppy back to its mama, then it would not be a big deal at all. I bet you are SO extremely excited! Can't wait until your new baby is born. I'll be praying for a safe pregnancy and birth. |

| yeah i am really excited! but i've been waiting 6 months for her to go into heat so waiting 5 or less shouldnt be a problem! and the best part is that she isnt selling any of them! they are all going to our family. also, this is sophies first and last time as a mother. my cousin, Natalie, just wanted her to experience motherhood

| A lot of it depends on how big your baby will be. I dont think that it's good to bring home a little 1 lb puppy at 7 or 8 weeks.. I brought Cali home at 10.5 weeks..I couldn't wait either..she was around 2 lbs. I know exactly how anxious you are..I had to wait through the heat and everything, too. But that extra week or two helped Cali out alot. I will tell you this..Cali's brother went home around 7 weeks and he bites and nips a lot more than Cali and doesnt listen as well when told no..even though a big part of it is environment.. JMHO GOOOOOD LUCK!!

| Well I brought Kizzy home like 2 days after she turned 6 weeks old, she weighed 1 lb. I've took care of her and talked to her like she was my real baby. She is 5 months old today and she has never been around dogs but a couple of times. She loves people and she is very smart. I have heard lots of people and read links that puppies shouldnt be taken before 12 weeks at least. But I did read on one link ( I wish I had kept it to send here) that its better to get them between 6 and 8 weeks if their healthy and eat good. She didnt have any teeth till like a month or so after I got her. But that link says its better to get them young so they dont learn as much about the ways of dog packs and such. I dont know who is right or wrong but I'm glad I got Kizzy when I did. She is a good girl and seems to understand almost anything I tell her. Good luck to you and I think its pretty much up to the breeder as to what they feel is the best time to let them go. But I would take it straight to the vet and have it checked over really good when I got her/him. Thats what I did with Kizzy and she got a great ck up with great results. All breeders and puppies are different. But I'm not telling you its better either way. Its up to the breeder and the dogs health in my opinion.

That is really not the case, much research has been done since that school of thought was promoted...and it is generally considered MUCH better for yorkies to be socialized by their 'pack' siblings/mom etc. for at least 10-12 weeks for temperment/behavior.

| Be patient and wait for your new baby. It is very important that the pups spend those few extra weeks with their mom to learn all those things about being a dog that they would not otherwise learn. It is kinda like puppy kindergarten with littermates as fellow pupils and mommy as the teacher. Maturity cannot be determined simply by whether or not they have been weaned and are eating on their own. |

| You've waited sooo long. What's a little longer? I was very impatient to get mine too but we are talking a matter of weeks and you will have her for many years. You can't turn back time...it's better to be glad you waited then to have a problem and wish you had.

| I think that if the puppy is a good size and is eating very well on its own - you could get it at 8 or 9 weeks. My 8-week-old pup met both those criteria and has been nothing but happy, healthy, playful, and affectionate since I got him - plus he has grown like a weed. I should mention also that I spent the first two weeks at home with him when I first got him - and except for when he was sleeping (which was most of the time), I pretty much carried him around with me - and he slept with me from the first night on. So - he was never alone or lonesome - and never appeared to miss his mother or littermates at all. He's definitely not spoiled --just the opposite. He almost never barks and doesn't whine, and doesn't want to be with me every minute of every day - and he is not demanding at all. He's a well-adjusted, happy, healthy, little guy. But - again - at 8 weeks, he was a good healthy size - and was eating up a storm before I got him. Good luck! Carol Jean |

| Most of the time it depends on the individual dog and the growth of the puppy! I was talking to nancy the lady that I am buying my little girl from and she asked me whether I was going to get her when my neighbor was getting her little boy and I said no because I wouldn't want to do anything that would jeopardize my babies health or her life because I was too selfish to wait a couple more weeks! That would be all that I would think about if something happened to her! This is just my own opinion but I think that those few more weeks are very crucial for the puppy! But I could be wrong like I said it depends on the individual dog itself! Please if you do get it early make sure that you and it are ready for it! Wish you all the best of luck!!!
