| Another ? about silky vs. cottony & pic Ok, please look at this pic (just taken). He is 7 months old, weighs 10-11lbs. He has not had a haircut. Will he be silky or cottony? Will his hair continue to grow? Change color? Thanks! |

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | If I remember correctly I was told that their coloring seems to change as far as up to two years. I think by now the texture of his coat won't change. So what you have is pretty much what you get. Someone will correct me if I am wrong

| Your boy is beautiful. He those look to have a silky wirey coat. Kind of that hair that redlegged yorkies have. I think his hair might grow but no too long or just be very thin. I might be wrong but based on the picture that is my guess. It seems his coloring might hold. |

| He looks silky to me. It can take as long as two years for a full coat to come in. He looks like a little sweety! |

| From what can be seen, he looks quite silky. Our female, Dori's coat is breaking once more and she is 19 months old. She very pale gold and light silver and is changing to medium silver and lighter blonde. Yogi is 14 months old and his hasn't changed much at all??? Your baby is very pretty!!! His color is very similiar to Yogi.

| He looks more silky than cottony to me. I would expect he would lighten somewhat. |

| ok, i've ask this before but dont think i've never had a picture that shows kizzys hair as good. Finally got one from the side and I hope some of you pro's will look at this and tell me what you think about her coat. She had had a bath a couple hours before this and was brushed but see how straggly her coat looks so quick after her bath and brushing? That is why I keep wondering if her coat will end up cotton because to me it looks more like cotton that silk. I know, nobody knows for sure and everyone has different opinions but I still like to read them. I cant believe she will ever have a long silky coat but her hair has finally started growing pretty fast this past month seems like. I am asking for all opinions from anyone that has one. lol. Then I won't ask anymore. ha. So here she is. Please dont tell me she gonna look this straggly the rest of her life.

| Your Kizzy's hair looks like my Cooper's hair. I think it is cottony and is probably going to stay that way!! Cooper just turned 7 months old. While his coloring is changing, the texture of his hair is not. It grows quite fast and matts easily. I just get the comb out daily along with the ice on ice, and keep the scissors and razor handy! Click the link in below in the signature line if you want to see pics of Cooper's hair. BTW, Kizzy is a cutie!!

| She does not look straggly at all. Do you trim her hair, or is that all she has grown? If that is all she has grown then she will probably never have it reach the ground, but I do feel it will continue to get longer. It looks more silk than cotton to me. Cotton dogs usually look more unruly and fluffy, but she does seem to lack the shine silks have. Add omega 3 and 6 fatty acid supplements to her diet would be my best recommendation. Also you can try a product called AntiSnap made by Redken (for humans) that prevents the dog's hair from breaking off or other products that add silk protein and moisture like Cowboy Magic, Concentrated Detangler & Shine. |

| I think Kizzy is a cotton and will stay like a cotton. Cotton hair is harder to manage also. Trixie has a cotton coat and her hair always looks stragely, the only thing that has helped her so far is the cowboy magic. Kizzy is adorable is adorable either way!!

| coat His coat does not look cottony at all..it could be a touch coarse, those coats usually break before they get long..but tiem will tell for certain. Kizzy has always looked silk to me...it does not mat, her eyes are not warm...silk coats are the ones that go through the "uglies"..they can be very thin and stringy...a cotton coat is the type that looks like a "teddy bear"..thick and dense, mat..you can thin half of it out and never miss it. |

| thanks for everyones opinion. I havent cut her hair. She is straggly looking but shes never had a mat in her hair. My brush just flows thru her hair. And its finally parting down the middle from the base of her neck to her tail but I just know I will never have a dog with a long pretty coat. waaaaaahhhh !!!. But I still love her and she is a very smart lil gal. She seems to know exactly what I tell her about most anything. Its like I"m talking to a child sometimes. I dont know how she understands so much I tell her. She even knows when I tell her shes pretty cause that little tail just wags and wags. btw, her tail isnt always down like it is in her pic. anyway. I love her and hubby does whatever she turns out to be. I think I will try the cowboy magic since I've heard so much about it. whatever she turns into she will always be pretty to us.

| coat Silk coats can not always take alot of oil based products...try a water based conditioner/rinse like Coat Handlers etc......a cotton coat can drink pure oil and not get stringy. Some Yorkies with short hair do not even need a conditioner to maintain healthy coats..but once it is long, they need a light, water based one...also, a clarifying shampoo is good to rid the silk coat of build-up..that can make it look bad. |
