Peeka Boo I See You! Donating Member | Help 6 Weeks And 1.7 Lbs Is This Big? It's official we get uor babies on monday they just got their first shots and the vet said they could go home because they are so healthy. But i was wondering if 1.7lbs is big at this stage and if you all think they will stay small? The mom is 4.4 lbs and the dad 3.2? i don't know?

| Kali weighed 1.4 lbs. at 8 wks and at 12 wks she weighed 1.12 lbs. I don't think that is big. Kobe is 7 yrs. old and weighs 5 lbs. I'm hoping she reaches his weight but I don't think she will. |

Peeka Boo I See You! Donating Member | Well i don't want a really tiny one but i did want one like 4-4.5 lbs. the momma has weened them and then decided to try to still feed them and they are also on dry food so i hope it's just them getting lots of food! LOL

| I think they will be closer to 5 and 1/2 pounds to 6 pounds. I'm not one of these that think 12 weeks should be mandatory for a Yorkie pup, but 6 weeks is really too young. I would see if the breeder would hold on to them at least until 8 weeks preferably 9. |

I agree 100%. The longer they are with their mother the better.

This might be a good rule of thumb but do remember there are exceptions. My Pirogue was 2.10 at 8 weeks, that equals about 8#. At a little over 2yo he weighs 11.2#. He is a throwback, he is bigger than his mother who weighs 10#. I don't have any examples of this example going the other way but I'm sure there are some out there. Sylvia | |

| age The vet said they are ready to go at 6 weeks...the vet knows little about Toy breeds IMO. The stress of leaving the dam too early and going to a new home can cause a healthy puppy to crash...but fortunately they are a good size at 6 weeks...best wishes.. PS..27 of the countries leading vet colleges are now recommending NO shots before 8 minium...vaccine too early can actual make the pup more susceptible to the vary diseases we are trying to prevent...it can interfer with the immunities from the dam...read up on it.. |

As for weight, Gracie weighed 2 lbs 3 ounces at 8 weeks. By calculations of these charts, she should be a little over 6 1/2 lbs. She is 5 1/2 lbs and is over 2 years old. Rebel was around 3 lbs at 8 weeks. By calculations, he should have been a 9 lb boy, in fact, he weighs 4 1/2 lbs and is over a year.

| Diesel was 1.8 at nine weeks old and now at 11 months old he is about 4.5 pounds. So it can vary a lot. I agree with the other about 6 weeks being rather young. When did she wean them? Congrats on the new babies. michelle |

Peeka Boo I See You! Donating Member | no they are 6 and a half weeks they will be 7 and a half weeks when i get them. i would not take a 6 wk old puppy home ever and the only reason i am taking them at 7.5 is because they are healthy and the breeder has a yearly marathon somewhere(i forget) to walk for a disease and she won't be there i would rather take them then have a puppy sitter. I am just boggled at the size because mom & moms parents are small and the same for the dads. just curious thank you all for the concern and advice i will take any i can get

| I really dont think you can go by anything except just watch your dog and see. I got Kizzy @6 weeks too. She wasnt suppose to get over 4 lbs if that according to the breeder. It was my first and I didnt know anything about them. anyway, she weighed 1 lb when I got her at 6 week, 9 weeks she weighed 2 lbs. and seemed like she gained a lb at least every 2 to 3 week. she wont be 5 months till July 3 and she weighs little over 6 lbs now and maybe close to 7. She still isnt all that big and hasnt seemed to have grown much if any this month. But seeing her everyday is hard to tell. She does have small bones and structure. But I just dont know if she took a growing spurt all at once and quit for good or if she'll take another growing spurt later. So i've decided their like a box of chocolate. you just have to wait and see what you've got. So i've quit worrying about it and I love her as much now as I would have if she were 4 lbs. by time you see how big they will get you will love them so much it wont matter anyway. goodluck on your babies, and I'm sure you'll be happy with them no matter how big they get. And the breeder told me she wouldnt get big enough to breed,,, hmm. wonder how big she had to be for her to breed her. lol she said thats why she was selling her. Sound like bunk to me.
