| Dumb Question of the Day I was wondering, do dogs recognize each other? While walking Nikko we have run into our neighbor from up the block with her shi tzu Bruno. Nikko being Mr. Social Butterfly always pulls me to greet him. We have run into him about 3 times. Do you think these dogs recognize each other as pals? I mean, are they like us and recognize other dogs as their friends? Or am I just reading human qualities into my dog again?

| LOL There are no dumb questions. I think they do, Princess has furbaby friends, and she knows who they are. If a dog walks down the sidewalk that she hasn't met, she will bark, but if it's one of her friends, she spins around and can't wait to see them.

| That's not a dumb question. It's a fun topic, actually. Not only do they recognize one another, I've noticed that when we come to a certain house that Kacee will look for her friend at that house to see if they are out in the yard. So, I think they recognize homes, too.

| Dennis always remembers the dogs in the neighborhood and all his little buddies that come to visit. So yes I think they do! |

| GREAT QUESTION! Absolutely completely and entirely, dogs to recognize one another by scent and they will file the scent away and remember it. That is why dogs do the butt sniff first (to determine if this is friend or foe) butts don't have teeth And then they will sniff breath which is the life force. |

| Logan definitely recognizes his jack russell girlfriend & knows where she lives. She also will show up at our house on occasion when she gets loose. Which helps her owner out because we just pick her up & take her home.

| baxter recognizes my best friend in a crowd of people. he runs through everyone and stops at david and jumps around all excited. and he knows certain dogs in the neighborhood. so yeah i think we underestimate their memory and intelligence. |

| Of course dogs recognize each other. The first thing my pup does when he gets outside is run to see if any of my neighbors or any of his dog friends are outside also. Carol Jean |
