| Watch out for hawks! We live on 5 acres and there is a hawk that stays on our land. Today, I was taking Annabelle outside, and realized the hawk was waiting to take his chance at swooping her up (she is a puppy). Hawks like rabbits, which we have a lot of too, and I didn't think until today that the hawk might try to get Annabelle. So, if you have hawks, be careful, they like small four legged animals. |

| When I was a child, my family lost our little puppy Pooka to a large owl. Watch out for birds! Always go outside with your pup during the Spring/early Summer (mating season), and make a little noise. You never know what could be lurking. And for God's sake, fellow Floridians, please don't walk your dog around lakes this time of year! Luck to you all, Theo's mom

| Yeah, I just found out that the owl in our yard, which is very big, is more of a threat then the hawk. Being a city girl originally, I didn't know this! I am sorry your family lost Pooka. |

| we had a close call with an owl a few months ago. it swooped down and i ran and grabbed romeo up in my arms. it chased me all the way back to my house swooping down at us. i was terrified. i tell everyone to keep an eye in the sky. it's not a rare occurance for yorkies to be killed by predator birds like owls and hawks. i had a post about my experience and was shocked at the responses. yorkie parents need to beware of predator birds. |

| Omg, last summer, we had a hawk that would sit and watch for rabbits in my back yard. He would sit on the telephone pole and watch me take my yorkie out.( he was a puppy then) I was sooooo scared he would snatch him up. I never would let him go potty without someone being out with him. So far this summer, I havent seen him.

| I always watch for hawks when I take Kizzy out too as we have 9 acres and there are 2 big hawks that flies around here a LOT also there is this one huge owl we see all along. Kizzy got stung by a small bumble bee last week on her left front paw and she was in some pain and couldnt walk on it but the next day she was fine. My brothers puppy got kinda cut up about 3 weeks ago from an owl that was the first time I realized owls will do this too. So please watch when you take your babies outside.

| I am glad your baby is ok. I have had them here too- I was washing my car just last month and had the babies sitting outside on their leashes- started noticing this bird that kept circling,circling- Hey - it was time to go inside. I also have a pesky raccoon that won't leave us alone!!! |

| I've wondered about this. When Brandy was a baby I was very careful about letting her outside without me. Now that she if full grown (almost 6 lbs) I don't worry about it as much. Do you think a hawk or owl could pick up a 5-6 pound dog? The hawks around me are red tailed hawks. Some are pretty big but not bigger than Brandy, I don't think. I've never seen an owl in my yard but I have seen them near by. I used to have a cage of finches in my kitchen window and one time a hawk swooped down and smashed into the window. The hawk then flew over and sat on my fence shaking his head for about 5 minutes before he finally flew away. I thought it was amazing he spotted the tiny little birds through the window.

| Heads up also to all you city folk (like me). We live in a regular subdivision, with a chain fenced yard, but we still see hawks and other animals I consider prey, like raccoons pretty regularly. We have a family rabbits who like to live under our deck and procreate every spring, so other animals pay attention!! Sissy is a very small 4 lbs and never goes outside alone for exactly this reason.
