| Extra Large Yorkshire Terriers? Has anyone heard of an extra large yorkshire terrier? I asked a dog owner about her dog and that's what she called it. I can't seem to find anything references on the internet and was wondering if there's another name for it, or if it's really a mix? It had all the lovely features of a little yorkie, but just bigger. |

| hey... My Lexie is a bigger girl now weighing almost 12 lbs. She is pure yorkie and comes from parents 5lbs and 4.5lbs. It can happen. It is apparently becomming more common. She is my big baby but still my little girl. I hope this helps. I don't know about the term extra large but she is biger than standard. (and not at all overweight) ~Tru

| These larger Yorkies are the ideal pets for families. Tiny, or even just small-say 5 pounders- can be too fragile for great family pets. I am happy to hear that someone was totally pleased to have one of our super-sized models. They make such wonderful companions and are Yorkies in every sense of the word... |

| well, Tootie is not considered "Extra Large"... but he is a BIG BOY! He is 12 1/2 pounds of pure FUN! He is 10 months old and quite the handful! Now that he is bigger I am quite glad! He is the perfect size to be small but not too small! d

| There's not really any classification of Extra large, she was probably just kidding about having a larger Yorkie. Yorkies are one of the most diverse breeds, ranging from 2lbs. to 15+lbs, smooth hair to cotton hair, long nose to short nose, & everything inbetween. The standard is 4-7lbs, like Nicole said, but there are many variations that happen often. My first Yorkie, Tucker came from purebred parents weighing 6 & 5lbs, and he weighs 12, so- it can happen . Welcome to YT!

| well... There were 2 bigger brothers in Lexie's Litter: one now weighs 18lbs and the other grew to be 25lbs. I guess it can happen. It is a throw back on the breeds they were bred down from. And all of them are pure breed Yorkies. The two other brothers were 5lbs. So anything can happen. (more love to give with larger babies, lol) ~Tru

| baxter is 8lbs and i think he's the perfect size for me. smaller dogs tend to be a little more fragile. it just depends on what enviroment the dog will be experiencing. i'd happily take a 15lb yorkie. |

| Personal Preference It's personal preference. If you don't care about the size, and you aren't going to breed or show, then it doesn't matter. My Chloe is 3 lbs and Baxter is 6 lbs. I choose Chloe small because I wanted a tiny Yorkie. She is fiestier than Baxter is! It's all how you feel about it.

| Starsky is around 10 lbs. He is kind of tall and long for a yorkie. But he is just perfect for me. I really don't worry about him jumping up and down of furniture and I think he is big enough to hold his own. He sure bosses all the squirrels and birds out of the yard and he is the boss of my 46 lb beagle! I don't worry about stepping on him. He still seems small in my eyes and has the biggest heart!

| I think my pup (10 months old) weighs 9 or 10 pounds. His mother was 12 pounds and his father was 4 1/2 pounds. Go figure! I love his size. He runs around our yard - plays with all my neighbor's dogs and visits all the neighbors and their children all the time. He is just the perfect size to be able to do all the things that he does. And --- if he were a tiny little thing - I just couldn't let him go out and play like he does. Actually - he still seems like a "very little dog" to me. He is sooooooooooo cute! Carol Jean |
