Big swimming pool

This is my first yorkie and i've done some searching about if they can go into the pool, i see they can but will their skin be dryed out from the cholrine? Right now i have a kiddie pool i got from wal-mart and she loves to play in it, but here in Jersey today it's like 80 already at 9:30 in the morning, so i'm going to go to my parents who have an inground pool. Do i jut give her a good bath afterwards? Her skin seems dry now so i dont want to get even drier. thanks!!

Princess is three, and loves the pool.
If you ask me, that girl is part fish!
She has two small pools, one out by the big pool,
and one on the patio. She's wet for most of the summer.
Thats why I get her the summer cut every year.
Any way to answer your question, yes they should be rinsed off
after being in a big pool. They don't need a full bath, but they should be
rinsed, cholrine can dry there skin. Happy Swimming!!!

Mac & Mellie love the pool. I rinse them off after swimming. I haven't had a problem with their skin drying out. One problem I do have with them swimming is that they insist on rolling around in the mulch when they get out. So it more of picking out mulch then bath!

when my boxer was a puppy he would go in our pool, but we dont use chlorine. There are other chemicals that are a lot better than chlorine, clean the pool better, and aren't dangerous to people. Since we switched chemicals none of us have had any problems, no swimmers ear or red eyes, etc. Talk to your parents about switching chemicals.

What do you use in your pool? I have been hearing about people switching their pool to salt water, but I haven't really heard any first hand accounts.

I wish my puppies loved the pool, but alas, I only have one that will get on a float with me, or stand on the first step. I am hoping for him to be my swim buddy this year. Mine also 'dry off' in the mulch, or dirt.

Thanks for the replies. I know you shouldnt get water in their ears, but what if she gets water in them. What should i do?

There's one called Baquasil that we used to use. Here's some info:

It is a chlorine alternative and only a lil more expensive.

This is an interesting post for me as although my one yorkie swims a lot in the sea now , we will be moving to a house with a swimming pool and I too have wondered if the chlorine would affect the coat. My other yorkie stays well clear of any water even the bath!!
