Went to Groomers and now I have ?? My pup went for his first grooming today..I know he needed it and since I was having a horrible time trying to groom him myself we went ahead and made a appt. I knew his hair was starting to get matted and it was becoming so hard to get out. I bought some detangler and all but couldnt do a whole lot cause he just doesnt quit moving long enough, he hates being brushed. Mostly his legs and sides were matty...she said it was best to shave all of it off and start over that taking the mats out would be nearly impossible. I wasnt too happy about that...I wanted to atleast save the top of his hair even if it meant him looking weird with some shaved and some not. But I couldnt picture him looking like a almost hairless rat. To our surprise my hubby went to get him and she shaved it all. From neck down. Left some hair on his face and head so his head looks big...I'm not happy but whats to do. Maybe it is better to start regrowing it. But it doesnt even look like him anymore and his coat color is like all gone. He was mostly black with tan and now whats left is what the roots color was..kinda silverish. I swear he looks like a smooth coated chihauhua! My questions are these...Will his coat tecture grow back differently because of using clippers? Also will his color come back like it was? I definately liked his black and tan. Is it gonna be affected? Also what type of brush do you recommend for everyday use? I was using a bristle also tried comb.

I recommend a slicker brush on mats, that's seems to work for my dogs. I spray the conditioner in the brush before brushing them. Also His black and tan coat was puppy hair. It will not grow back in that color. He will be lighter colored. Using clippers has nothing to do with his coat texture. He will be what he will be, clippers or not. Sounds like you have some training to do with the grooming. Make sure you brush every area of his body everyday, down to his skin and through every layer. Now that his hair is shaved off and no more mats, it might be a good time to start teaching him good grooming habits. A little a day with treats rewarding his good behavior.

This happened to me as well but and i did want to shave him all off because of all the matts that he had . His hair did grow back lighter but it's not because of the clippers it's just that's the color that he would have been anyway. He did look like a chihuahuah, skinny at that but i can honestly say his hair grew back must softer. With all those matts that he had, his hair was starting to look a little coarse. I use a metal comb to comb his hair and use a conditioner. I recently purchased chrissystems ice on ice and love it !

AW! I am sorry to hear your baby is nekked! I don't like the head left big when the body is clippered. I agree that it looks so big. His coat will most likely be lighter unless his adult coat is destined to be black and tan or gold. I agree that you need to brush and comb every day now that he has NO mats and he will learn to enjoy being held and stroked..I have some grooming terrorists!!!

I am sorry to hear the groomer shaved your baby! It will grow back and maybe even fast than you think. I brush my yorkies every day, or for sure every other day and I use J&J no more tangels for if there is any matting, it works great and takes any matts right out.
