| Poochie bells I got kizzys poochie bells today. I hung them on the back door and tried to show her to hit them. she is scared to death of them and backed away and tried to run away from the door. So I took them down. At least she was going outside if I watched and would speak when I ask her to go outside pee pee. I tried to keep her in a little cage all morning, she would lay there for a while then she realized if she barked enough I would take her out. So I took her out everytime and stayed with her for 15 minutes or so at a time. She would not pee. As soon as I let her out on her own she peed and came back when I called her. But I cant do that because I'm scared she will get where she wont come back and she just cant be outside alone without a leash or in the pen we bought for her. I can pen her out there and leave the door open and hook her leash to the pen and let her go in and out of it as she wants. or if I cant watch her closely I can lock her up in it. It has the bottom tray so I pull it out half way so she can still be in it yet she can be on the ground. I've been doing that for a while but she will not hardly pee that close to the tray. So i've about given up on anything but keep on doing what i'm doing, (watching her and trying the speak at the door thing ) till she learns hopefully to speak on her own when she needs to go out, which is gonna take time I know. So I guess patients is the virtue in this case. But she is doing better about coming and whining once in a while to me. wish me luck as I need it bad.

| It's so funny you posted this thread b/c my poochie bell just arrived in the mail today but I've yet to teach them how the bell works, so I guess we'll see how they like it in a few day. Ideally I wish my boys would use the pooping pad but they've been doing their business outside for me when i take them out. It's just when i don't take them out and they need to go so they'll go anywhere but the darn pooping pad.

| The barking worked for my bloodhound. I had taught her how to speak on command so I started making her sit by the door and speak before I would let her out so she caught on pretty quick. She never would really bark when she wanted out. It was more like a loud whine, but whatever it was it let me know she wanted out. So if you can get her to bark each time before you go out keep that up. She'll probably catch on and eventually start doing it on her own. As far as leaving her outside alone we had some stake things that went down in the ground that we used for our big dogs and we got one back out for Reagan here recently. I believe we got them at Wal-mart and its just this green metal stake that you drive in the ground then attach the dog to with a leash/cord. Its nice because you can put it in the middle of the yard and its not something that sticks up so you really can't see it in the yard(this can be a good thing or a bad thing, especially when you are looking for it). We made her a cord out of clothes line rope because I thought the ones they sell for dogs might be a bit too heavy for her. It works great to toss her out there on when she needs to go potty. Plus she also likes to lay out there in the sun a lot, this way I don't have to stay out there with her or keep a close look out on her. I just check in every so often and she lets me know when she wants back in if I haven't already brought her in.

One way I have heard, this is the way we taught our bloodhound. Put the dog somewhere where they can't get down, on a bed or chair of some sort(whatever it is you are probably going to want to make sure the dog is comfortable not scared). Then get the dog really excited usually they will start barking because they want down and in on whatever you are doing or what not. While they are barking keep saying the command "speak" or whatever you decide to use, we also used "sing". And remember to praise them. Like I said this is the way we taught our bloodhound, I would imagine though that it would be easier when they are a bit younger and a little more frightened to actually jump off whatever it is you have put them on to. Also if your dog barks at a certain time like when you are feeding it you can start saying the command then and praising him when he does, eventually saying the command and making him do it before you actually put the food in the bowl. Or maybe if he barks at the doorbell or when someone knocks, have someone make the sound while you tell him the command and slowly get to where you don't have to have someone make the sound. I'm sure there are other I just don't know of any but if these don't work I'm sure others have some ideas or you can check on the web to see if there are any others. Good Luck. ---- Kissy's Mom-My sister said the same thing about the bells and going to other people's houses. That's funny because I never even thought about it, although they didn't work for us so it didn't really matter. I guess though if you are going somewhere especialy if you are staying for a longer period of time, like over night or something, you can always take the bells though.
