Please Be Careful With Flea Collars I know alot of poeple may use collars for fleas, mosquitoes during the summer but I really hope that most DONT after reading this.My mother in law buys flea/mosquitoe collars for all of her dogs this time of year, she always has and up until now she hadnt thought twice about it,she just assumed it was a sensible thing to do as she lives in the middle of the countryside where there are LOTS of mosquitoes and even mre fleas/tics.But yesturday one of her dogs got out of the collar and ate it.He died..and not due to plastic or because he choked, but because of the poison in the collar! He only ate half and it doesnt look as though he got to do much more Please DONT use flea collars on any of your babies because you never know what they could do when you leave them alone.Flea collars dont have a regular buckle like normal collars do,so if they get it caught or get their paws under it,it is easily removed and they are poisonous (sp?).I just wanted to warn you all..

sorry to hear about her baby. on the same note please do not have your dog flee dipped. last summer my mothers best friend took her yorkie mix to the vet to have her flee dipped. we do not know if the vet tech who dipped her was inexperanced or careless but her baby died as a result at the office. the vet made no apoglies. so please lets all be careful on what kind of chemicals we put on our dogs. i find garlic pills and yeast pills work great. it does not prevent heartworms though. we use heartworm meds only when the weather gets warm. so far no flees and no heartworms.

Sophie's vet advised us against using a flea collar for her because the substances are too strong for small dogs. Instead, the vet gave us a pill that Sophie takes once a month, and it works just fine. Unfortunately, I don't remember the name of the pill, and my sister (who knows the name of the pill) is traveling in China for a week and unreachable right now.
