Hmmm..Question! Hi all, Was wanting to get your take on this. I have an appointment with the vet for Yogi's 12 week shots but didn't know if I should mention this or if it's just a normal thing. For the past few days, Yogi has been peeing constantly!! I am trying to housebreak him so take him out all the time and am watching his water and food intake. I'll take him outside and he'll pee once sometimes, twice. But then, when I bring him back in, He'll pee some more!! Like yesterday, I took him out, he peed twice. We came back in and I had him with me in my office with a puppy pad and within 20 minutes had peed two more times!! He hadn't had any water since being in the house! Is this that male "marking" his territory thing? He's peeing on the puppy pads and going back to the same puppy pad to do it. Could there be something else going on? Melanie

I'm an expert on puppy peeing. I put my little pup in belly bands when he had full run of the house as soon as I got him - and, because I was holding him almost constantly, I knew every time he pee'd. And, for sure --- little puppies pee almost constantly. I know at times for several hours, he'd pee almost every 15 minutes. And, then for some reason, he'd go for an hour or more and not pee. I'm am convinced that this is why it is often so hard to potty train a very young pup. Now that he's older (8 months) --- he'll go 5 or 6 hours without peeing - and often longer (and he always goes all night without peeing). But, still he has times where he pees more often. I feel that he has reached the age where he can hold it - if he chooses to - but he just doesn't do it all the time. And - this is a much better age for potty training to kick in.... We are now working with a dog that has more control! Nevertheless, the end result is that older dogs can hold it a lot longer than little puppies can. If you stop and think about it, a newborn baby is usually wet most of the time too. And - I don't think he's marking - he's just peeing...... Not to worry!!!!!! Carol Jean

Thanks so much for the information, Carol! I was a little worried about him. But it makes sense that they can't hold it very long. I also thought that maybe he was a little young to be going through the hardcore housetraining. I mean, he's so little! Almost three months old but I just have to wonder if he's not too young to be expecting him to figure it out. I was doing puppy pads for a little while and he was doing really good. No matter where he was at, if he had to go, he'd find a pad. But hubby thought we were confusing him since we were trying to get him to go outside. So I stopped. But I think I'll bring them out again for a little while. I just think he is too young right now and I'm worried that the more he pees around my house, the harder it's going to be to get him to stop!! Melanie

Ollie will do that too. Fortunately she is hitting the pad 90% of the time.

I just want to tell you when Lucy was a pup she was peeing all the time too and I think she was 4- months or so and she was still peeing alot although I took her to the bathroom all the time and she would pee then have to go again...by this point I knew she knew that she wasn't suppose to pee on the bed or couch and I knew something wasn't right so I took her to the vet and we checked for diabetes and she was negative for that but she did have a bladder infection. This is a simple pee test that they do to determine it. After she had medicine she was totally fine and never peed in the house again.....So??

I don't think going outside and inside confuses our little pups. As a matter of fact, when I was training mine to use the pee pad in the house --- he just automatically went everytime he went outside. I couldn't have kept him from doing that. I think what helped my puppy go so well outdoors also was the fact that I have another dog. And we all go out together, and he invariably finds a spot or bush where my other dog has gone (or watches him go) --- and he just has to go there too. So, I'm sure this is a big help. Have your husband pee on a bush - then your dog will too..... Did I really say that! Carol Jean
