| Morkie/Yorktese pup coloring I have found a breeder of Morkies (or Yorktese) that I am looking to buy a puppy from. At current they are only 6 days old, but I want to make sure I reserve one before they are all spoken for. But there is a little dilema...each pup is a different color. One is black, one is a dark golden and the other is a light carmel color (she is also the runt). I am hoping someone out there has experience in what colors they generally grow up to be. If you can help out, or have photos of what I might expect it would be greatly appreciated. Thx!!! |

| Hi and welcome! Before getting Bella, I had seriously considered getting a Morkie/Yorktese. I thought they were oh-so-cute! Then, a friend of mine asked what they looked like when they got older, and I really didn't know so I looked them up. Every picture I saw of them was pretty scary and to me they just didn't look "right". I'm not trying to be mean, or discourage you... I just hope you've seen the adult Morkies/Yorktese's as well... I know you asked about the coloring, and I don't really know about that. Sry. Good luck w/whatever you decide!!! |

| I would expect them to stay a solid color if that is what they are now. I really prefer the purebreds of each breed, although I have occasionally seen a cute adult Yorktese or Morkies. I think you call it one or the other depending on which is the sire and which is the dam. I've also heard that a Morkie to a Morkie does not produce as pretty pups? I've also seen some that look 100% Yorkie, but most look a little scruffy to me. If the runt is real light you may want to consider tear stains showing. Also, a mixed breed might be healthier, but I sure wouldn't pay a "designer dog" price. It's hard to say if the runt will stay a runt. If she was the last one born, she will probably gain weight up to the rest of them in a short time. It's probably too early to tell, but I have seen some really thin haired Morkies so I might go with the thicker coat. If any of their tails are curling like Maltese I might pick that one since I love their curling tails, but I think that doesn't happen until they are older. I'm a lot of help, huh? Good luck, pick the one you bond to and you will think it's the prettiest dog you've ever seen no matter what it grows up to look like! |

As such, with any crossbreed you can get anything in respect to size, look of either breed and everything in between. You could end up with a dog 5 lbs or 25lb, it may look more like a Yorkie, more like a black maltese or anything anywhere between. In developing purebred breeds, it took many generations to develop the breed you see today, for example the Yorkie which started about 100 years ago. A purebred however is not continued by continuing to breed crosses, a purebred will breed true. So if you breed a registered purebred Yorkie to a registered purebred Yorkie, you will get puppies that look like Yorkies. There may be some variation in size and quality of the puppies etc but that will also depend on the quality of the parents and the quality of the dogs that produced the parents. If the parents were pet quality and those generations before them, you will likely get a very pet quality puppy. A yorkie maltese cross is produced by breeding a yorkie and a maltese. However, you will not know if other breeds may have been involved if the Yorkie and Maltese were not purebreds. | |

| Bailey takes after the maltese a lot more than the yorkie, I have seen others that look a lot more like the yorkies. A relative or ours just had a litter of four male Morkies, they are all spoken for already though. |

| I also have a maltese yorkie cross. His coloring has stayed exactly the same as when i got him at 8 weeks... he's now 6 months and all that's changed is he's gotten bigger. He definetly lookes more like a yorkie, and acts like one but has such original coloring everyone on the street always asks what kind of dog he is. His litter mates where all different colors and different facial charectoristics from combining the two breeds but the other litter mate i have still seen regularly also looks very similar and her color has also not changed since she was 8 weeks. I don't think you have to worry about a cute little puppy morphing into some monsterous attraction, and really if there color does change so what? As long as you love the pup it isn't going to matter. I love my little mix, so what if you can't predict exactly what there tempperment and attitude should be? But really i think this site proves that you can't expect anything from purebreed dogs either, each dog has their own personality and you should just get what you fall in love with. Oh here are a few pics of my little one so you can see him.(sorry if anyone has seen these before, i didn't want to re-size my other massive files) |

| I"m going on out on a limb here and have been afraid to say this since i joined this forum because so many judge but i'm going to anyway. I bred my yorkie tasha to a poodle. Yes her pups are yorkie poos. I did it for one cause i had planned on breeding yorkie poos and 2 because they make great dogs for people that do have allergies and I have 3 kids that have them so I had decided to breed them. I have since decided that I want to stick with just yorkies. But I have to say. I've owned purebreds and I've owned mixed breeds. And to be honest I"ve found more mixed breeds to be a gentler dog than pure breeds. Don't get me wrong I love my pure breds but they can have tempermental probs as well as other probs too. I can also say that in my opinion i've not seen ONE single yorkie that looks like another. quality or not I don't think yorkies all look the same. I don't think I could go pick one out as apup and it look anything like the others full grown. but they all have similarities and that's what attracts me to them. I hope I haven't lost respect from other breeders but if I have then they weren't my friend to start with..here are my babies
