Baby hair! Just a question --- Why do people say their pups haven't "lost their baby hair?" Do they expect it to fall out. Don't you have to cut it off -- I did! I couldn't get a comb or brush through my pup's terrible hair - and trimmed if off as soon as possible. He had at least three hair cuts (or more) by the time he was three months old. And (the good part) - the newer hair growing in behind the baby hair is wonderful. If I didn't comb him for a month - he wouldn't have one tangle or matt. His baby hair was so bad - it hurt him for me to even try to comb it, and he quickly wouldn't let me near him. I didn't want him to be hurt, have him hate this, and fear it forever, so, I kept him very short and postponed grooming and combing until we had nicer hair to deal with -- which didn't take very long. Now with nicer hair - he doesn't mind being combed at all. Carol Jean

Am I wrong Okay, am i doing the wrong thing? I have never cut Ceeby's hair. Just trimmed the usual places but never his body hair. His colors have changed and I think his hair is beautiful. It never mats or tangles and shimmers. I wanted him to have a long to the floor coat. Now, are you guys saying I HAVE to cut it off so more hair will come in? I like it just the way it is but if there is nicer hair on the way I will cut it. I do really, really like it now tho. I knew the puppy hair doesn't fall out. I thought it just kind of evolved as they grew and got older. When he was a baby, he had nasty, oily thin hair that went every which way. I never did anything except comb him. It is still kind of thin but the texture and color is great!!!!!!! I will wait for someone to answer. Thanks

puppy brush question I do not have an answer for you as I am new to Yorkies, but appreciate your advice. I will try to get Lola groomed early to let her pretty hair show through. I was at Petsmart the other day and asked the groomer to help me pick out an appropriate brush for a young Yorkie. She suggested a small slicker type brush with hard bristles. I wanted to get the softer (slightly) bristles because I thought that it would not hurt her as much. Hopefully it is appropriate to ask, while we are discussing puppy hair, what your favorite puppy brushes are??? Thank you! Sarah

| Sugarsmom- if you are happy with Ceebys hair then I wouldnt cut it. Chachi has cottony hair and it had matts and thats why I cut his. I had Jewels done at the same time since I was having his done. Alot of people never cut out that baby hair and just let it grow.

No - you don't have to cut it off so that more hair will come in. We were just saying that our pup's first hair (puppy hair) was so terrible that we needed to get rid of it. We couldn't even comb it... and, then after cutting it off, the newer hair was much nicer. If your dog's puppy hair is nice and easy to comb - you can just let it keep on growing and then only trim it when you feel it is necessary - perhaps just to keep it looking neater, at times. **** This may be a consideration - you know how baby's hair is often finer and of a different texture - if this is so and you notice the newer hair coming in has a different stronger texture, you may want to just trim the ends eventually. Also - my pup's first hair was black - and his new hair that quickly grew in is silver. So, the black has been cut off (which would only be at the ends now - if I had left it there.) If you have easy to manage hair - you can trim however much and whenever you want.... Carol Jean
