| Jasmine and Jake were Exposed to Parvo mg: I just found out last night that a friend of mine who brings her dog over about once a week to our house has her dog, Philly, in the vet. now being treated for Parvo. I am a nervous wreck. I called my vet. this morning and explained the situation and that I could bring my dogs in tomorrow morning to get checked out. They looked over Jasmine's records and said she would be fine since she just had a vaccination last June. Jake on the other hand is the one to worry about. The vet. asked me to have Jake at his office as soon as possible...My sister had him there in 15 minutes. He was given a parvo booster and has to take three more every three weeks now that he has been exposed to it. The sick dog has been in my yard and all over my house. I had no idea it takes six months for the virus to disappear. Jake seems fine and I hope I am blessed enough that he stays well. From now on, I will not allow people to bring their dogs over unless they have been fully vaccinated!!! |

Oh my!!!! Good thing you got him to the Vet right away! We will keep both of them in our Thoughts and Prayers. And your friends furbaby too. Maybe you should put some bleach in your yard. It might kill your grass, but it will kill the Parvo that could be there too. I had people step in bleach before they came in to my house, when Princess was a puppy, Parvo in not something to mess with. Best of luck to you, and Please kep us posted.

| Thanks. Jake is not quite five months old and he is more susceptible to parvo than older dogs. My best friend also had to take her dog to the vet. this afternoon because the dog with parvo had just been to her house on Sat...the day before he was taken to the vet. |

| The other problem is that my friend has another mixed breed puppy that has even spent the night in my laundry room. He hasn't been tested for parvo yet. I feel really guilty for not asking if these dogs had been to the vet. at all. Neither one has had a single vaccination since birth. I guess I just assumed that everyone takes proper care of their dogs like I do. |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | That's VERY scary and what a shame....for her dogs AND you....I'd be pretty upset but I hope all will be ok... All the best to you.... I have a friend like that too no matter what I say to her - she never spends the money for vaccinations....Her and I have gone round and round about that...to tell you the truth - my respect for her dropped drastically when I really found out how she is with her dogs....I wish she didn't even have one. |

| I just keep looking at my two precious babies and keep hoping they will be safe. This is such a freaking shame!!! Not that money matters, but Jasmine and Jake were by no means cheap and I didn't get them for someone just to bring their dog here to expose them to something like this. I know things happen but this could have been prevented by all means!!! I love my furbabies dearly and just pray they will be ok. |

| You're exactly right. Jake is just now 19 weeks and is not fully up-to-date on his shots just yet. He has had his normal routine visits but still has several more to go...especially now! |

| I am so sorry to hear about this. Has your vet told you what to do to treat your house and yard? If the dog was there it can lay dormant for years! My sister used to work in a humane society so I can ask her if you want on what to do. I do beleive though that bleaching your yard and house is about the only way to kill the parvo virus. My sister had a dog that got parvo and it was very costly but she saved him. She used a carpet cleaner and put color safe bleach in it and went all over her house. She also put bleach on her yard. It killed the grass but like she said no grass is better than deadly grass. I hope everything turns out good in the end. If you want more information just pm me and I will ask my sister if you want. |

| I just found out earlier that two puppies that Philly played with now has Parvo and are struggling. Jake seems fine and shows no symptoms. I really hope we are in the clear here. |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Those poor dogs...I just don't know why someone can take in a life that THEY alone are responsible for and not give them normal vet care....she is putting them thru alot all because she didn't get them their shots....I know sometimes Parvo is still contacted even with vaccinations but I bet that is a very low number compared to the dogs that do NOT get it.... I hope her dogs make it and I REALLY hope yours will be ok - I'd be so scared....(and Pissed) ....but hopefully since your dogs have had their shots - they'll be ok |

| Thanks V...I always love your posts...My dogs are covered as far as vaccinations but I just feel for the two puppies suffering right now... It is just terrible! Jake is a live wire right now as usual so I think he is going to be ok. The other two puppies got the virus within 7 days... |

has your friend actually learned from this ? When my friend's little beagle came down with heartworms because SHE didn't spend the money on pervention....After all the crying....she turned right around and got another puppy..... and guess what...? And guess what direction our friendship went ? This is a girl that has some problems but always manages to afford booze...makes me really wonder...I know she's a good person deep down. Just totally irresponsible and NOT an animal lover if she doesn't put them first.... The hardest part is knowing the dogs really SUFFER....all because someone didn't spend a few bucks... Parvo is nothing to mess around with. which is probably how you're feeling about YOUR Friend. You and her need to have a long talk and keep us posted ok ? Prayers are with you..... | |
