| I need help and advice, Please! I posted this on the Chihuahua message board but nobody really posts there so I'm begging the experts here for help. I have a 2 year old chihuahua who was spayed yesterday. She weighs 3 1/2 lbs so the vet kept her overnight and sent her home today with pain meds. She is in so much pain yelping whenever she moves. She won't even lay in her bed. She's just standing in the kitchen with her tail between her legs crying. She hasn't eaten since Wed evening and isn't drinking at all. I offered boiled chicken which she loves and baby food per vets instructions. She's refusing everything so I gave her pain meds a little earlier at 7 pm and then called the vet shortly after. The vet tech said they would see her tomorrow or Sunday if she doesn't improve. Does anyone have any advice on how to help my baby? |

| OH my, She won't drink any water??? How about licking on an icecube? Maybe the juice from the chicken? I hope someone logs on with some answers to help you. Hmmmmm, I would take her in to be seen, she's so tiny, she has to have something. I hope she feels better soon.

| I tried the ice cube but she turns her head away and I just tried to put some nutrical in her mouth but she yelps so loud when she moves so I'm trying not to move her little body. I thing I managed to get a smudge in her mouth though. Bentley, our yorkie, won't leave her side...it's so touching how in tune they are to each other. Thanks for the advice and support. |

| I think I would take her back to the vets. Sounds to me like something is really wrong. My daughter has a Chi and she had her spayed, and didn't have any problems. Her furbaby is also very small. I don't mean to alarm you, but rather be safe than sorry. Good Luck and let us know how she is...

| Poor little girl...They are usually sore for a few day . She should start showing improvement. I would ask the Vet if you can give infant tylenol along with the pain meds to help with the pain. Do you have a eye dropper to give her some water? (you might try to put a little sugar or honey in the water). Maybe wrap her in a towel and hold her while giving her water. or You might try to get some baby Pedialyte and get her to drink some of that. You do need to get fluids in to her so she will not dehydrate. And keep trying to get her to eat alittle something... ofter her small bites from your hand? If she seem cold maybe a heating pad on warm for her to lay on. If she is not any better tommorow I would have her seen. |

| If she is not better in the morning, I would take her in. If they can't see her, call the emergency vet. Go find the numbers for the vet and the emergency vet and put them on your counter to find in case you need them during the night. It is really hard to look for phone numbers when you are upset (if you start getting more worried about her). If she seems to be getting weak, call the vet again tonight. If you can get her to eat a little more nutrical, that would be good. If you put a little on top of her paw, she might lick it off, too.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | When I mad my Pom spayed years ago she cried under my bed for 2 days. I took the 2 days off to be with her. She wouldn't eat either but she was 10 lbs. It was awful I felt so bad but by the 3rd day she was back to normal. They told me that they found she was in a false pregnancy when they spayed her so I don;t know if that made any difference.

| Its really important that she drinks..If she won't drink plain water..put a little kayro syrup or honey in it..then give it to her with a dropper or a syringe..for her size make sure she drinks at least two or three dropper fulls every two hours. I would also encourage her to rest..even if you have to sit her on your lap and pet her..good luck.

| I hope she is doing better today Paige also got spayed last week and it took her a few extra days. Just keep her in a dark, quiet place until she feels better If you end up taking her in, let us know what the vet said for future reference. Hope she feels better soon !!! |

| Aww poor baby I had Bella spayed thursday, she is also 3 and 1/2 lbs and the first day she was very sleepy but has not cried out in pain once. There are no stitches....they did laser surgery and "glued" it together. The vet said she had to stay as calm as possible for 7 days....no jumping, running, licking, things like that.....with Bella it has been almost imposible. He also told me to keep looking at the insision site and check for redness or swelling the first few days. Have you looked at the area? If not, try to check it. If it is red then maybe she has a little infection. I would imagine though that everyones tollerance for pain is differant, and maybe your baby is just one of the ones that has a low tollerance for it. I will be praying for you and hope that all is well. Good luck hunny, and please let us know how she is doing.

| thanks to everyone for the advice and well wishes for Chacha. I took her back to the vet Sat. morning and they gave her fluids because she was dehydrated. They also gave her stronger pain medicine in addition to the meds she came home on. I brought her home and she was still just awful yesterday but today she took some minced chicken and broth. She seems to be getting a little better although she just hides in a dark corner of the kitchen under a chair instead of sleepig in bed like she usually does. I'm keeping an eye on her gums since they were so pale on Saturday but she does seem to be doing better. The vet said sometimes the tiny ones just don't bounce back like they do when they are a bit bigger. Boy did she really have me frightened! She still hasn't kissed me yet...I think she's mad at me for taking her there, not once but twice! |

| Is there another vet in your area. If she had surgery last Wed. she should be doing really well by now, like almost back to normal. 6 days that poor baby. I would consider another opion or atleast call another vet and ask for their opion.
