Just a quick question, what is a biewer? Is it a coat colour differentiation?

If you want the simple answer, yes. Gus is a Biewer.

Lol - don't worry. It would be a shame if people were afraid to ask about them. I just don't want to be the one to explain - I'm too good at saying the wrong thing.

I never knew about a Biewer until this website. Now, I want one too. They are adorable. There should be no controversy with this thread. Different strokes for different folks. I want a Biewer but that doesn't mean I don't think my yorkie, Gracie, isn't the princess of the whole entire world. Hee hee

The Biewer is a beautiful breed from Germany. They originated from Blue and Gold Yorkshire Terrier parents, to put it as simple as possible. They have now evolved into a breed of their own. They have a standard which calls for markings that are speficially placed. Many simplify them to be a Yorkie of a different color. But 20 years later they are a breed of their own. When the breed was first created the breeder was going to have it as a varitity of Yorkie but over time, the club that accpeted the Biewer has decided it should a breed of it's own. And that's what we have today!
In Germany, they do not compete alongside with Yorkies. Meaning, they are not considered a Yorkie of a different color.
In the US we have a Parti Yorkie. Which can be similar in markings sometimes. But a Parti Yorkie is only required to have 2 or more colors, one being white.

The controversy is about whether the Biewer is 'just a Yorkie with a different color'. And according to Germany and club that was first to recognize the Biewer that is NOT the case.

I think the controversy is not as strong because many of the members on YT that opposed this, are now members of the IBC just as I am. That's in the best interest of this beautiful breed.

to the IBC. It's one of the best assurances you have that the Biewer your buying is going to be a true Biewer. I think more and more people are becoming members to validate their Biewers, wheter they intend on breeding or not. All the information is on the IBC site and there's lots of translation programs out there to help with understanding where they are trying to go with this breed. Yes, definitely a coat color, but they are different also in personality. Very outgoing and very sure of themselves. Such sweethearts...

ItsPuppyLuv -- I don't think Biewers are a touchy subject. There has always been a little discussion as to whether or not we should consider them Yorkies - or a breed unto themselves. But putting that aside, we all love little Biewers and most of us would die to have one. They are absolutely beautiful.

Anyone interested in Biewers can find many many threads here on YT about these little guys.

Does someone have to sponsor a person who wants to join the IBC? Would we contact Dagmar directly or is there another person who handles registration and membership? What is the cost? These are just some questions of general interest.....

Rini there is nothing in the application about needing a sponsor.

I personally emailed Dagmar on several topics that were posted here on YT to clarify what the club stands for and if I was understanding correctly what was intended for the breed as well as the Clubs rules. I know now that all that my research has been confirmed and correct and I am still on the right path, per Dagmar. For example we are to leave our Biewers intact until they are 15 months of age unless they have health issues. Germany is very strict on altering dogs in any form of altering. You can email her for any help as she is the one that takes care of our puppy registrations and memberships for us.

I believe that it was something like $74.80USD, but it might depend on what the conversation rate is at the time you apply.

I looked at this club as well as others when I was researching the Biewers a couple of years ago. It is my mentor, Manuela in Germany that suggested that I joined a Club to help me with the registering of my Biewer pups. Since I liked what the IBC stood for with the Biewer breed after several emails as I stated earlier, this was the best Club for me and where I would like to see the Biewers grow. Dagmar was very willing to answer all of my questions and that to me was the best selling point. She has time for the members of the club.

Please enlighten me on when I ever said this! All I have ever said is that I don't want the yorkshire dropped out of their name as this is what was placed on their standard and the breeding of Yorkshires is what developed the breed.

Since I have taken the time to show my Biewers with the IABCA, when they enter the ring it is as a "Breed of their own" Biewers, the only time they compete against a Yorkshire Terrier is if you take the best of breed and move on into best in group, ect..
