Feel Like I've Wasted Money My babies harness vest, car seat and purse carrier came in last night. I'm sure you can understand my excitement and couldn't wait to try it all out. However, everytime I tried to put him in the carrier, he went bazerk! Squirming and wiggling so bad, I thought he was going to break a bone in his body. He just freaked. So we tried the harness vest as he'll need to wear his vest to be secure in his car seat and in his purse carrier, or to walk on his leash outside. NO WAY JOSE. Everytime I came near him with it, he ran away. Haven't tried the car seat yet, I wonder what that's going to be like. Could it be possible my baby has confinement issues. Is there anyone else out there who has a baby like mine? Even the cute little shirt I bought him from BDC is just sitting on my dresser.

| I am sorry you feel discouraged by your fur babies dislike of all the great items you got. Maybe try just one thing at a time for just a minute or so with your little one, then give praise and a small treat. Try this a couple times a day, again for just a minute. Then, maybe the next day do the same w/ another item. As time goes by I bet your fur baby will become accustomed to all the items and hopefully accept them. Hope some of this helps.

Thanks Schatzie I was thinking that same thing today, my excitement probably intensifies his fears I'm saving the car seat experience for this weekend. Tonight I will put his purse carrier on the floor, maybe put a treat or two in there, see if he'll show interest. We'll do this every day as now that he's had all his shots, I want him to go everywhere with me. Thanks for the advice.

| Diasy is like that when I first put her in her bag, but then she settles down. Is she used to being in a kennel cause that usually helps??

There was no settling down for him, I couldn't even get him in all the way, I thought he was going to break his neck thrashing around like that. Even when my son held the bag open and I put him down in there, before I could put the little strap over the purse, he was escaping. He is in a kennel during the day, it's not a small kennel but a large one. He's starting to hate that too, going to have to invest in baby gates and give him the entire dining room. I think every night I will just spend a minute with the new item and him, maybe even trying putting a treat in it.

That let's him know, "hey, if I whine about this then I get MY WAY." You want him to be spoiled, but well trained and well behaved as well. Crate training is crucial. Have you tried a smaller crate more suitable for a Yorkie. Crates should be only big enough that they can stand up and turn around in. It should be their little "home", their safe place. Hope things turn around for ya!

Carrying bag I was thinking about getting my Carrying bag early, before I bring my Yorkie home, so he can get used to it first thing, coming into my home. I am sure everything will be so new for him. I do have a crate for him to sleep in at night or when I am not home. I hope it isn't to big. I used it for my Cocker when I had him. I didn't want to go get another one. It is medium size. I thought maybe I could make a wall in it some how until he grows bigger. Leigh (only 11 more days until my little Starsky comes home)!!!!

my yorkie does not like the carrier either. We just walk him. But what you can do is leave the bag open near his/her crate or play area with teats in it. Put his her favioret toy in side it as well. do not encurge or make an issue of the bag. just keep droping treats in it ... while they are looking. Eventually they will enter the bag then give hugs and kisses and leave him/her to play. I did this for two day with chelsey our maltease. Then I took her out to the vet on day three. Now when I take the bag out of the closet she knows we are going outside. She comes running. You thing she would be afraid of the vet but she likes it there. More treats for her.

I think it's always hard at first, but once they realize the carrier and the carseat mean going "bye-bye" they can't wait to jump in!! Does yours like to go for a ride? I actually leave the carrier out by my desk and he will sleep in it. It is his little home away from home. He will also dig for treats and toys left in there. Good luck!

He doesn't cry when he's in his big kennel, you can just tell he would rather be somewhere else. I am gone 11 hours a day with only my 18 year old to take him out and play occassionally, to put him in a small crate for 11 hours where he has to hold it and is only able to stand up and turn around in would be cruel. Gating him off in the dining room would give him more freedom without the confinement of the kennel where he can't run.

He loves riding in the car and when I say let's go bye bye and I jingle my keys, he gets all excited. In the past he would lay on the passenger seat and never tried to get up or jump off, now with his car seat, he'll be able to see outside. I can't wait to see how he reacts to it this weekend when we try it out. I will try the suggestion regarding the carrier. I got it down tonight but he just sniffed it and tryed to bite the straps so we put it away.
