| Question about breeding A lady apporched me today about maybe getting our dog's together and making some puppies. I dont have a problem with it but I have a lady little girl that I plan to breed at a later time (she's only 17 weeks). If I do this does it mean when my two dogs are ready to have puppies will my boy want to be with my girl or will it be weird for him like he is cheating on the other girl. Other question is I know it usally is a amount of money or pick of the litter how do I go about this? I dont know much about this stuff but any help would be very helpful? Thanks Stephanie |

| I am not a breeder. However, I think that is why they are called studs

| When bredding please take many things in consideration like, conformation, how the dogs complement each other, how well they adhere to standard etc... With that being said I don't think cheating is ever an issue.Your boy will always show interest for any female that is in heat regardless of whether he is familiar with her or not. I believe that is just nature. He will probably breed with both if necessary. |

| Stephanie, before you go down this path you need to really research breeding as it can/will change your little guy. There are many threads on YT which you can read that will help you make the right decision. In the animal world very few species mate for life so "cheating" is not something a dog would understand. That is a human emotion.

| Your little guy might get more than "messed up". He could be exposed to STD's, or other communucable diseases. Also, who has evaluated both dogs for their breeding quality..Lots to learn before any consideration is given to this proposal. I know a woman who got involved in the exact type situation and i know for a fact that the papers for the female were forger..she is a Maltese/Yorkie mix and the KC reg papers were bought from an Amish miller in PA. |

| I think it is the general consensus here that most of us leave the breeding to the breeders and get our own pets neutered and spayed. You should have a good reason to breed any pets. You should especially be assured in advance that you (or the other person involved) will be able to place them in good homes. If anyone wanted to use my little boy for a "stud" -- the answer is "NO." He is a pet. I have had a few cats have kittens --but they were spayed immediately after that. And I have never let any of my dogs (boys or girls) parent a litter. There are so many puppies and wonderful older dogs in this world looking for homes. I don't want to add any additional puppies to that list. And, even allowing my little guy to be a stud would be doing just that. Also - I think that for a lot of us - our little Yorkies were sold to be "pets." They are wonderful, great, and we love them with all our hearts, but they don't meet the Yorkie standards that should be an important part of any decision to breed. Please give your decision to breed a lot of thought - there are certainly a lot of things you need to consider - and a lot of research that you need to do about breeding, breed standards, etc. Good luck!
