| Question about my new yorkie Hello fellow yorkie owners, i've recently acquired a yorkie a few days ago and i'm trying to do as much research as i can on the breed. It's about 6 months and has already been toilet trained. He's timid right now and is pretty good. The only problem is that i am a full time worker , Work 9 - 5, and i read that you can't leave yorkies alone for more than 5 hours. I live really far from work so there is no way for me to go home for lunch and check up on him. This is a really big dilemma for me because i don't want to neglect him. I am willing to give up any of my free time to play with him but as you all may understand, there is no flexibility around a 9 - 5 job. Please let me know if i can work this out. Thank you for your help! |

| He will be fine while you are gone to work. He will need a place to go potty so you may need to use potty pads while at work if you don't already do so. I work about 7-8 hours 4 days per week and my girl stays in my kitchen with a potty pad available in the connecting laundry room. Some days she holds it but when she can't she uses the pads. I think she pretty much sleeps all day while I am gone because on the days I am around she follows me everywhere and by evening she is just worn out.

| You may consider getting some company for him...another dog or a cat? There are also dog walking services you can hire to come and walk the dog, there is "doggy daycare" as well where you take the dog to them. Anither opiton is a neighbor that you trust with a dog who may be willing to watch him during the day. Just some ideas. Congratulations on joining the yorkie world! |

| While not ideal, many dogs are by themselves all day while their owners work. Could you get someone to walk him midday?

| I also work 8:30 to 5:00. My little girl stays in my kitchen while I am gone. Well now I have my little girl and boy. This Friday My husband and I went and got her a playmate for during the day..... Maybe this is something you can consider! Crystal

| I just want to say congrads on the new addition! I'm sure everything is going to be fine, I think a doggie daycare is a wonderful idea! Or even getting him a companion. This would help him to get interaction. And he won't have to be alone!! Good luck with whatever decision you make!
