| Grrrr Pita has kennel cough again! My daughter just adopted a dog from the Humane Soceity and we were all so excited to see her that she came over and played and we didn't think twice.. Well, a couple of days later we realize the new dog (Ellie) who is really a sweet mixed mutt, has kennel cough and now Pita has it and my other daughter's Chi has it too. I got Pita with Kennel cough one year ago this week and it took so long to get over and know I've exposed her again!! I am so mad at myself for not thinking about it before we introduced the dogs!! So far it's not too bad, an occasional cough and some sneezing but I know how bad it can get!

| Do you guys think I should take her to the vet and get antibiotics? I know the kennel cough is a virus so the antibiotics are really just a precaution to keep her from gettin an infection. Should I wait to see if it gets worse?

| Yea, that's a good idea, i'll just call them first. I hate spending money and giving her medicine she doesn't really need. Sometimes I think they give you an antibiotic just so they look like they've done something. I know when Pita had this before it just had to run it's course the medicine really did nothing.

| I'm so mad at myself for letting it happen... I know better too, I just didn't think. Thank Goodness so far it's not real bad but the Chi is pretty sick cuz he lives with the new dog, my daughters live together by themselves. (very nice for me) Do you think they will just keep passing it back and forth? Has anyone had experience with multiple cases? How do you keep them away from each other? Considering it's airborne you'd have to keep them in different houses. Now that they've been exposed to each other is it wrong to let them play together??? I gotta call the vet...

| Maybe you can ask your Vet about some natural over the counter type herbal things that can help ease her symptoms? Or I know you can do alot of research on the internet (google) about some natural medications that can help a little, and help boost her immune system to help fight it off naturally. Just double check with your Vet beforehand. Sorry to hear this, seems like its going around alot lately.

| Oh No!! Poor Pita and friends! I so empathize with you, it took FOREVER for Biscuit to get over his cough, I was also worried about the amount of antibiotics the vets had him on. What really worked in the end or at least seemed to help was putting him in a room with a vaporizer with vicks at night. It seemed like not too long afterwards, his cough finally left. Hope this helps! |
