Nervous about Yorkies’s Weight.

Yep, rehomed the first and adopted another one who is about a week younger and weighing less even than my other Yorkie when he was a puppy at the same age

New to the forum, late to this topic- I had to put down Zeke about 2 months ago. He was 20 lbs and not overweight. He was the best dog ever. He was predicted to be 8 lbs and as he grew we thought he may not be a full blooded Yorkie but various Vets assured us he was-just an outlier. I would love to find a new puppy that would grow to 12 lbs or above. Any suggestions to where to find one?

15 pounds is not a medium dog so he still would have been a small dog. Never could I give up a puppy once I got them. It’s actually kind of upsetting someone can just shut off like that. I would live in my tiny little Honda Fit before getting rid of my babies.

When i lived in apartments they always specified breed, not weight..

I am so sorry for your loss.

My now passed girl weighed in at 17 lbs, she had beautiful sleek body, her picture in is my album, a side shot of her sleek body. Unfortunately breeders do not breed for bigger yorkies, society wants tiny dogs, "arm jewelry"!!!! There are good breeders that every so often will have a larger puppy but they are far and few between. YT has had several ppl asking the same question as you. Getting an older dog, not a baby puppy, a rescue may be the only way to get what you're looking for. In 2013 I adopted a 2 1/2 year old boy weighing 12 lbs, tiny to me after having a 17 lb girl for 17 years.

My little girl is 3 pounds at 15 weeks and I’m scared that she will be too little.

Marlee is 16 weeks and I got her from the breeder on December 30th. I was told that she will be around 7 pounds and that’s what I want . On her vet paperwork says that she was 3 pounds the day I picked her up from the airport. Due to Covid I couldn’t get her a vet appointment until January 15,2021. The vet confirmed she was healthy. What troubled me was Marlee weight was 2.2 pounds. She has a healthy appetite and eats 1/2 cup twice a day. I’m afraid that she will be too little. I won’t walk her outside because she is too small. I’m just praying that she gets bigger

Congratulations on your new puppy. That weight sounds good. And I’m sure she will grow bigger. I have two Yorkies named Brooks and Bodhi-Vino. Brooks was 2lbs at two months when I received him and gained a pound each month until he was 7lbs then stopped growing. When he was around two after getting him neutered he grew another pound so now he is 8lbs.

Bodhi-Vino was 2lbs at 2months as well. I didn’t really monitor his weight so much but now he is 1yoa and neutered and weighs 7lbs.

My Jax only weighed 26 ounces at 12 weeks and, for a long time, I was afraid he wouldn’t even make it to four pounds, he grew so slowly. He didn’t reach four pounds until he was almost nine months old. He’s now about 16 months old and weighs a studier five pounds. I wouldn’t mind him being bigger, because I think he would be a little safer, but at least he no longer feels super fragile.
