| Awww our loving seniors. As long as she is eating, drinking, pooping and peeing, she's not sick but sleeps a lot she is fine. My lil gal stayed with me for 17 years, her last 2 she was deaf, blind, missed her pee pads a lot, slept most of the day, when she was awake I would play with her, it was a different kind of play since she was blind and deaf and lots of smooches and hugs. As long as your vet has not told you to start thinking about it enjoy everyday she is with you and cherish each day. Don't think of the when, just love her and make each day as special as you can, even if it's only a few minutes each day. Have you spoken to your vet about her crying.

| I made the decision to have Brandi put to sleep because she was in chronic pain and most of her final days were spent on pain medication. When there was nothing more that could be done to alleviate her pain permanently, it was time to put her to sleep. I've had to put several animals to sleep and I usually gauge on their quality of life. It always came down to their suffering and how much and how long. |

| That is such a hard question that we all have to deal with. With some of my older dogs it was very obvious due to the pain that they were in, but with our old miniature schnauzer, Lucky, we had a much harder time. Although he was both blind and deaf, he still ate, wanted to play tug, and was excited to go on short car rides. He was not in any discomfort or pain that we (or his vet) could see. When he began to develop dementia, he would get confused, and then became more timid and shy. He no longer was excited to have treats (and he had always been a piggy with treats). One day when we were on the lanai he fell into the pool, and had to be rescued. He had always known to avoid the pool (we think he could smell the chlorine), but he dearly enjoyed lying in the sun. After he fell into the pool a second time, and was no longer able to be let outside to enjoy the fresh air, he would cry by the door and scratch the sliders. He had become unhappy, scared, and did not enjoy any of the things that he had previously been able to do. Shortly after we made the difficult decision, again after talking with the vet, that it was kinder to let him go. We stayed with him, stroking his head and whispering loving words into his ears, and his passing was gentle. We miss him to this day, but know that he is romping on the other side of the rainbow bridge, happy and free.

| Pam, I am so very sorry you are in this heartbreaking situation. I will tell you what my vet told me when I was in a similar situation. Listen to both your vet and your baby. You know your furbaby better than anyone. She will tell you when it's time - believe me, you will know. Sending healing to you during this stressful time of decision making. |

| It's so hard to watch our babies when they are in those last stages of their little lives. My first yorkie, Teddy, was 14 when he passed with kidney failure. He had a very hard time even walking during the last couple of days. He would try to walk and just end of going sideways. I was prepared to take him to the vet on Monday morning but he passed in his sleep on Saturday afternoon. So heartbreaking but he gave me 14 years of pleasure and unconditional love. He'll always have a place in my heart even though I've now got my little diva, Gidget. I think of him even though it's been 5 years. Our little guys get into our hearts and they never leave. Enjoy your little one and grieve when he's gone but you'll have previous memories of him. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | If she "cries a lot" - do you know what the cause is...? It sounds like she could be in pain; if you think she is, I'd take her to a vet. If it's dementia related, I'd talk to the vet about Anipryl. I always say look at your baby and look in your heart - and really assess the quality of her life...you will know when it's time. I know this is so beyond heartbreaking, to think about things .

| UPDATE: I took our yorkie to the vet. She is currently on meds for the rest of her life for her arthritis and dry eye. Lab work and blood work revealed that all her systems are normal. We are keeping her comfortable for as long as we have her. |

| Thank you for the up date. It's terrific she is on meds that can help her. Cherish her, as every day is a gift.
