what's up with AKC?

this probably belongs in the breeders section but I figured I might get a quicker answer to this. A breeder told me if I sent a copy of my CKC female's 3 generation pedigree to AKC and paid $150.00 I could get her registered as AKC has anyone else heard of this?

Which CKC? Continental Kennel Club? Canadian Kennel Club?

The Canadian Kennel Club is accepted, but I don't think that the Continental Kennel Club is. See http://images.akc.org/pdf/rulebooks/GASPEC.pdf

I just contacted the breeder that told me about getting AKC papers and she said it's Continental Kennel Club and she has already done 2 dogs.

Okay. I'll do a little more looking into it now that I have more information.

It is not possible to get AKC papers with the Continental Kennel club. The Continental Kennel Club will register anything as a full bred whether there is proof or not (a table has been registered as a dog with them) so the AKC would not accept their papers. I’m sorry but your breeder is not being truthful with you and that is a huge huge red flag. It also makes you wonder what else she has not been truthful about. I would definitely get pet insurance ASAP because it sounds like she is more into money then healthy breeding so you want to be covered for genetic issues that may pop up.

According to the AKC's website, the answer is no. You can see here: https://www.apps.akc.org/apps/contac...e_services.cfm. Click on the question that says "My dog is registered with another registry in the United States. Can I register my dog with the AKC?" You will see the following answer:

Answer: A dog whelped in the United States that is individually registered with one of the Domestic Registry Organizations listed below may be eligible for registration. A three-generation certified pedigree issued by the Domestic Registry Organization must accompany the application for AKC registration.

No other registries are accepted besides those listed at: http://www.akc.org/rules/special_registry_services.cfm.

Some examples of other registries that are not accepted by the AKC are:
a. America's Pet Registry (APRI)
b. Continental Kennel Club (CKC)
c. Canine Kennel Club (CKC)
d. United All Breed Registry
e. United Kennel Club (except Coonhounds)
f. North American Purebred Dog Registry

The AKC and these registries do not follow the same standards and guidelines. Your dog or its subsequent offspring cannot be registered with the American Kennel Club.

It also allows you to get a pedigree of your dog, which will trace its ancestry back three or four generations.

Registration of your dog also allows you to participate in many types of AKC events, including Conformation, Junior Showmanship, Agility, Obedience and Performance events.
