I have a 6 month old female yorkie and she loves to go swimming, I take her swimming almost everyday with me. I was just wondering if that's too much for her, being that she's so young still??

Swimming is great exercise, everyday is fine just don't tire her out. You should keep a harness and retractable leash on her in case something catches her eye, she won't swim off on you. I had two swimmers I always kept their harness on with a 25 ft retractable leash, Have fun with lil girl.

I hold her the whole time and let her go swimming on her own a little at a time so that I don't tire her out. Thanks for the harness and retractable leash idea!!

Is she swimming in a pool or a lake? If she is swimming in a pool, be sure that she knows how to find the steps to get out from every angle of the pool. I It could save her life in the event she falls in and nobody is around to pull her out. To do that, just drop her in at different points of the pool, go to the steps and call her and let her climb the steps to get out. This way she will learn how to get out of the pool should she accidentally fall in.

It's a swimming pool and yes I've trained her to find the steps, she learned very quickly, I can't believe how smart yorkies are!!!

My little girl I used to have hated to swim.
My little guy runs around the deck and when he gets hot stands on the steps for me to put him in the water.
He does a lap and climbs up the steps and shakes off until he gets ready to go again

My baby loves the water!! She started playing in her water bowl every chance she got lol and then we started putting her in our Roman tub and she would just roll around and splash about!! She also scratches at my shower door until I bring her in with me!! Needless to say I have a very clean baby girl��

I think swimming would be good exercise, but the chemicals may cause the coat to dry out. They make a chlorine remover shampoo for humans so I would use that after swimming. I'm glad yours is able to get out unassisted.

Has anyone tried any drowning safety devices? Mine are too small to get out on their own if they fall in. The 4 month old puppies are just under 2 pounds so they can't be left unattended in my back yard even for a minute. One has already fallen in, but I was right there to get him out. Interested in the turtle collars that sound alarms if collar gets wet, but wouldn't be of help if no one at home. They won't meet the weight requirements for the alarms that sense something falling in. Also looking at scamper ramps, but not sure if they could get on them after watching the videos. I ordered some perforated rubber mats I'm going to attach pool noodles to and hopefully they will be able to climb up the part I will leave hanging down. I will update after this weekend to let you know how they work.

She knows where the steps are and will stand on the top one but she is too small to jump out but she is NEVER left outside by herself. Where my pool is located there is no way she can get to it by herself and we have a gate that totally in closes the pool. Yes, please let my know how the mats work for you.
