Unhappy I need help....Can anyone help???

Hello,
I have a 9 week old yorkie and at night she sleeps in her create. Well lastnight she started crying and I didn't go get her and she did stop after 20 mins or so. Anyway when I got her out this morning I noticed that she went to the bathroom in her create. Should I have taken her out lastnight when she was crying? When she is done she usally doesn't want to go back in the create, cause she wants to play. If I do take her out at night should I just out her right back in her create I don't know what to do, I don't want her to keep going to the bathroom in the create, but I also don't want to start taking her out every night in the middle of the night. Can anyone give me on advice on what I should do.
Thanks,
Crystal

Congrats on your first yorkie! Yes, by all means, take her out and let her go potty on a pad and then put her back in. When I first got Chewy, I had to set my alarm to get up at 3AM every day for about a month to let him out to pee. Unfortunately, they are too young right now to hold it all thru the night. Once they can tho, you will be set! Make sure to put her right back after she goes potty so she understands it's not play time, it's sleep time!

Good luck.

Sorry, but at 9 weeks old, you're probably gonna have to do the middle of the night potty break. I'd have taken her out, once she'd finished, I'd put her back in the crate. There were many times that I'd happen to wake up and would take Trace out....just in case.....and yep, he'd go.

I don't keep Gizmo in the crate at night anymore, since he is a little older.. But when he was little baby, he would stay in there at night. But when it was about 7 or 8 I would pick up the food and water. Then I would take him out one last time before I went to bed. That way he was pretty much done doing his dooty for the night, and he would not need to go out again. But the vet did tell me that when they are puppies there bowles are not mature, and they can and will have accidents. So just have to work with her, and over time, she will get on a routine, and she'll get used to everything. Hope that this wasn't to confusing, if you have any questions, feel free to ask me.

I guess I will just have to take her out at night. At what age will she be able to hold it in all night? Thanks for helping girls, I don't know where i'd be without YT.

I would take her out, she's too young to hold it all night. I would take Princess out at night when she was a puppy, she would jump on my head to let me know she had to go. But I learned not to turn the light on, if I did, it was play time. After a few nights she understood it was sleep time, and I wouldn't get another lick till morning.

OOPS, did not realize that she was only 9 weeks old. I agree, I had to take gizmo out as well when he was that little. But I would still take the food away about 1 hour before bed.

I always have to get up myself, so I used to wake Tucker up and take him into the bathroom with me. I had a pee pad in there. He always looked so cute, half asleep on the pad. He has been able to hold it all night for months. (He is 8 months old). He also will hold it all day if he is in the crate. But if he's loose, he pees and poops all day long, all over the house. aaaarrrrgggghhhh.

I didn't crate train but the "idea" behind it is they usually won't potty where they sleep so they cry to go potty elsewhere until they are old enough to hold it. 9 weeks is so young it's probably hard to tell if she is crying b/c she is lonely or needs to potty. better safe than sorry, let her out so she doesn't learn that going in the crate is fine.

I have another concern. If she is still tiny (most at 9 weeks are) you might want to reconsider her access to food for a month or so. Going all night without food is not good for the little ones. You got this pup a few weeks before the recommended time so extra caution might be wise.

Best wishes

OK. First she is so tiny you can't expect much from her, so these things may not work, BUT... She probably needs to go out at least every 2-3 hours at night. You might just want to set an alarm for this. Slowly she will learn to let you know when she needs to go, but she can't right now. She was probably trying BECAUSE she went in her crate. My husband would jokingly refer to this at the "after the fact warning indicator." So, by letting her out every few hours you avoid her soiling her crate. We did this and still had many late night baths.

Second, you don't want to encourage her crying. So, when she does cry you can let her out but you need to wait until she quiets down even for 2 seconds. She will learn that when she is in her crate she needs to be quiet. Eventually you will learn the difference between a "let me out!" cry and an "I need to potty!" cry, but it will take a while.

Third, Loki was about 8 months old before he slept through the night, and I'd say 2-3 times week he still stands on my chest at 2:30am (always?) and needs to go out. (He's a year old now) I do NOT play with him - we go right outside and right back in. I did give him a treat though, until he got the potty training down. We had so many problems that him peeing outside was a big deal, even at night. When he was little he'd go back in the crate. Now I just go back upstairs to bed and he's free to follow whenever he's ready - he usually follows me back up.

You will have to take the pup out periodically during the night right now. You will notice as she gets a little older it won't be as frequently, then not at all. Cowboy was completely crate trained by the time he was 9 weeks old and always sleeps throught the night. However, my 7.5 month old pups still don't mind going to the bathroom in their crates. Each dog is an individual. It may seem tiring right now, but it does get better (usually ).

It's also possible that she was whining b/c she pottied in her crate and now she had to try to sleep by it, lol. Either way, you'll probably have to do the mid-night potty breaks for a while still.
