| I need serious help Scooter's noises while he sleeps have become so loud that I cannot get any sleep. He has a trachea problem and I've seen the vet who said it's not serious and has given him Temaril but it's not helping. This is a very terrible problem as I am unable to sleep with the noise he makes. I've tried to shut him out of the bedroom but he becomes frantic and right now it's 4 am and he's been crying and barking for 2 hours. I'm in tears from frustration because I can't sleep and I feel so badly for him because he doesn't understand why he cannot come into my room. What should I do? Right now I've opened the door and he's running around frantically. This is breaking my heart. I love him but I work and I have to get my sleep. Someone please tell me what to do.

| Have you ever heard of SnorEraser? Pete snores so loudly sometimes he can wake me up, and I found a link to SnorEraser while I was looking for noise cancelling earplugs online. I haven't bought SnorEraser myself as it isn't currently available here in the UK, but it might be worth a try for you. |

| Aww, poor little guy. Earplugs or turn on a fan for white noise?

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I would get a white noise machine; got mine on Amazon and helps me sleep so much!

| Even the radio on does not cover the noise he makes and I've tried ear plugs and they don't cover it either. It's so loud you can hear him in the next room.

| Have you tried crating him at night in another room. I would get one of those bears with the heart beat so he can be soothed at night while you sleep. Works for puppies so may work for your boy.

| I thought about crating last night and the bear is a good idea. Right now I'm open to anything. Thank you.

I use a HEPA air filter for white noise to cover up noises from outside and all of the little house noises that irritate me. A fan also works. Relaxation techniques also help me. It's something I learned while working in a neurosurgery hospital unit that treated people who suffer severe migraines. It's like meditation. Divert your thoughts before you go to bed away from your anxiety about the noise and lost sleep, and away from anything stressful. Focus on things that make you happy and relaxed. I have gotten so good with forcing my mind to relax that I was able to sleep through my big brother snoring like a bear on the couch when he visited. It's not a quick cure and doesn't work for everything (doesn't help me with mega bass from an unwanted stereo), but it helps reduce the stress and enables me to sleep well. Definitely need the white noise though.

| If his breathing is that loud I think I would find a specialist for a second opinion & a possible med change. |

| I can't explain the noise but it's not breathing. It's a cross between a whine, yelp and bark. Very loud.

| I agree that seeing someone more knowledgeable about trachea problems in Yorkies would help. Some Yorkies have quite a tendency for this genetic issue. A good joint supplement has been known to help slow down deterioration of the trachea. There may be previous Yorkie Talk threads about Yorkie trachea problems. You could do a search at the bottom of the page. Just make sure you check the Yorkie Talk box underneath. Doing a full Google search may bring up some useful info, too. Don't give up. Help is out there. |
